Operations IT is a global capability supporting the Global Operations organization across Pharmaceutical Technology Development, Manufacturing & Global Engineering, Quality Control, Sustainability, Supply Chain, Logistics, and Global External Sourcing and Procurement. Introduction to Role Are you ready to redefine the future of medicine? As a Principal AI Scientist at AstraZeneca, you will have the opportunity to do just that. This role involves defining and leading major AI projects, deploying them into production, and generating business and scientific insights through advanced data science solutions. You will be working closely with internal stakeholders and providing expertise in advanced mathematical and AI models to solve complex problems in drug development, manufacturing, and supply chain operations.
Key Responsibilities Drive the implementation of advanced modeling algorithms (e.g., classification, regression, clustering, NLP, image analysis, graph theory, generative AI) to generate actionable business insights.
Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of AI projects, from conceptualization and development to deployment and monitoring in production.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and integration of AI solutions with business objectives.
Mentor and coach other AI scientists, promoting best practices and fostering a collaborative learning environment.
Influence and engage with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure the successful delivery of AI solutions.
Key Projects AI Powered Drug Development - Develop and deploy AI models to optimize drug development processes.
Autonomous Manufacturing - Implement AI-driven solutions to enhance manufacturing efficiencies.
Essential Skills/Experience Bachelor's Degree in operations research, mathematics, computer science, engineering, physics, statistics, economics, computational sciences, or a related quantitative field.
Extensive experience with modern data science approaches.
Proven track record in modeling and analyzing complex datasets within applied business or scientific domains.
Advanced proficiency in data science languages: R and Python (Python preferred), with familiarity in database systems.
Experience in manipulating and analyzing large, high-dimensionality unstructured datasets and presenting actionable insights.
Excellent written and verbal communication, business analysis, and consultancy skills.
Desirable Skills/Experience Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in a relevant quantitative field.
Experience with cloud-based AI/ML platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP, Dataiku).
Familiarity with CI/CD practices for machine learning models.
Knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry, drug development, manufacturing, supply chain process.
