Global Site Assessment Specialist – Natural Hazards & Climate Change Resilience Services (80-100%)


Zurich Resilience Solutions (ZRS) was recently launched to support our commercial customers to enhance resilience in a rapidly changing world. We do this by offering risk prevention and mitigation services to proactively manage complex risks. One of these services is Zurich's Climate and Sustainability Solutions (C&SS), provided by Zurich's site assessment specialists to help both customers and our business partners analyse and understand natural hazards- and climate change-related physical and operational risks, with the goal of developing risk management response measures.


Your core responsibility in this role is to support our customer to manage their physical and operational risks, and to extend our range of services in response to changing market needs and regulatory demands, working closely and under the supervision of the Global Head of the C&SS Team:


Have a business mind-set – with exceptional technical skills – to develop the business in the local and global markets.
Supporting our customers in analysing and communicating natural hazards- and climate change-related physical and operational risks at customer facilities.
Developing risk adaptation solutions and mitigations.
Support the global C&SS team in development of new services, e.g. assessment of biodiversity risks, urban resilience assessments, nature-based solutions.
Scope the market to identify, and acquire, potential customers, supporting the local sales teams.
Training Risk Engineers and developing a community of natural hazards and climate change specialists as well as support in developing new assessment guidelines.


Your Role


As the Natural Hazards & Climate Change Resilience Services specialist your main responsibilities will involve:


Supporting the sales network in customer acquisition and discussions relating to natural hazards and climate change.
Identify and respond to pertinent customer proposals.
Coordinate and support the delivery of climate resilience services globally.
Support the local and global network of climate experts.
Supporting our customers in developing mitigation and adaptation strategies for natural hazards and climate risks (acute and chronic risks).
Act as a technical expert on Natural Hazards and Climate Change, to support external customers and internal business partners.
Supporting the Global C&SS Hub in building tools, processes, knowledge and awareness (internally and externally).
All the above under the supervision of the Heads of the Global C&SS Team.


Your Skills and Experience


As the Specialist – Natural Hazards and Climate Change Resilience Services your skills and qualifications will ideally include:


Strong engineering background (preferably Civil, but also natural/environmental/atmospheric science) with a Master's degree + 5 years practical experience, preferably outside the insurance sector.
An understanding of climate change science and its practical application.
Extensive knowledge of practical engineering and organizational protection measures for natural hazards.
The ability to communicate complicated concepts in a clear and compelling manner to all levels of management and stakeholders of various levels of technical proficiency.
Fluent in written and spoken English at a technical level. Any other language is an asset.
Experience in consulting services, or a commercial mindset with an ability to identify opportunities for providing services and a strong customer service orientation.
Some experience in catastrophe modelling tools and critical assessment of output.


Additional Information


Preferred work location is Madrid, Spain.


The travel requirement is up to 30%.
