Role Overview Mondly by Pearson is seeking an experienced and result-driven Engineering Manager with a strong technical background in Frontend Web development, particularly with Ember.js, to lead our Frontend team. This role is pivotal to our mission of creating cutting-edge educational web applications and experiences that drive learner success.
We are looking for a leader who can combine technical expertise with a pragmatic, product-driven, and business-focused approach. This role will report to the Head of Engineering and operate as part of the Technology team, unless the Employer determines otherwise.
Responsibilities Technical Leadership: Lead a team of Frontend engineers by example, setting high standards for code quality, performance, and best practices. Stay up-to-date with the latest Frontend development trends, tools, and technologies.
Team Management: Foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration within the Frontend engineering team. Mentor and coach team members, helping them grow in their careers and achieve their goals. Provide direction, guidance, and training to their team; manage the onboarding plan of new employees and ensure consistency around practices, tools, and technologies used inside the team. Promote a culture of partnership, teamwork, innovation, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Product Development: Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to define and execute the Frontend product roadmap. Ensure that the team delivers high-quality software on time.
Architecture and Design: Drive the design and architecture of Frontend applications, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and security. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align technical solutions with business objectives.
Code Reviews and Quality Assurance: Conduct regular code reviews and implement best practices for code quality and test coverage. Establish and maintain a culture of continuous improvement and automated testing.
Innovation: Stay at the forefront of Frontend development, identifying opportunities to leverage emerging technologies and methodologies to improve our products and processes.
Recruitment: Collaborate with HR and talent acquisition teams to identify, hire, and onboard top-tier Frontend engineering talent.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering leaders from other teams (iOS, backend, frontend, etc.) to ensure seamless integration and alignment of technical solutions.
Performance Management: Set clear performance expectations, conduct performance reviews, and provide feedback to team members. Address performance issues and facilitate career growth and development. Duly observe all applicable health and safety laws and regulations.
Qualifications & Skills Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
Proven experience as a software engineer with a focus on Frontend development.
Strong technical skills in Frontend development, specifically Ember.js.
Prior experience managing or leading a team of engineers.
Proficiency in modern software engineering best practices, tools, and methodologies.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Prior experience with Agile ways of working.
Ability to build agile and high-performing teams.
Passion for education and a commitment to improving learning experiences.
Business and product mindedness – understand the role of tech and engineering in business.
A pragmatic approach to problem-solving, with a strong focus on being product and business-driven.
Evident fluency in English, being confident in speaking, reading, and writing communication.
