Flight SW Architect
DEIMOS is selecting engineers for its Flight Software division, forming part of the Avionics Business Unit at our Tres Cantos premises.
The work of the FSW division is oriented to the specification, design, development and validation of Embedded Software and Hardware systems for space vehicles, including GNC systems, GNSS, Image processing, verification facilities, etc.
As a member of the Avionics Business Unit, you will work in a team of other highly skilled engineers across Europe (Spain, Portugal, UK, Romania), working on projects covering applications such as:
Satellite rendezvous, in-orbit servicing (IOS) and active debris removal (ADR)
Entry, descent, and landing on planets (Earth, Mars) & natural satellites
Launch vehicles
Earth observation, upstream (flight segment) and downstream
Interplanetary exploration and navigation
Unmanned autonomous vehicles (UAVs, UGVs)
System and mission design
The selected candidates shall be integrated into an international team of highly qualified engineers and exceptional human quality. Likewise, Deimos' transnational condition could allow the candidate international mobility, developing his work from any of the company headquarters.
Main Duties:
The following responsibilities are envisioned:
Participation in the entire lifecycle of the development of embedded onboard systems, including implementation on different target hardware platforms of real-time image processing or artificial intelligence solutions.
Design and implementation of Software and/or Firmware.
Participation in the Software and System validation and system qualification.
Interaction with other different technical areas inside the Company (including areas such as AI/IP, GNC, GNSS), who are responsible for the definition of the specific algorithms that will be implemented onboard.
Education:
Required: A recognized engineering degree (Computer Sciences, Electrical, Electronic, Telecommunications) with demonstrable experience in computer systems and software engineering.
Appreciated: Postgraduate studies (M.Sc. or Ph.D.) with a focus on software engineering, real-time software or embedded systems design.
Professional Experience:
Required: Engineer with minimum experience of 5 years in the practical application of the domains relevant to the post (experience obtained while obtaining relevant M.Sc. & PhD studies could also be considered as applicable for the position).
The position will be tailored to the level of experience. Industrial experience in the aerospace sector and/or critical software development will be viewed positively.

The following capabilities are required for the position:
Experience in design and development of real time and safety critical Software systems for the space industry, following applicable software development standards (e.g. ECSS, CCSDS).
Good programming skills (C, C++, plus potentially others as Python or Ada) and knowledge of software configuration control (GIT, SVN).
Solid theoretical knowledge of real-time multithreaded systems, real-time operating system (RTEMS, VxWorks, FreeRTOS, etc.), embedded computer architectures (LEON, ARM, PowerPC, etc.).
Software team leadership along the project phases, and generation of project documentation associated to applicable development standards.
Desired: Experience in some of the following fields is desired but not indispensable:
Experience with Software systems for embedded Hardware control, communication interfaces (e.g. RS422, CAN bus, etc.), Boot Software, etc.
Knowledge of PUS Services (ECSS-E-ST-70-41C).
Experience on Software verification and validation, use of system test benches (EGSE/SCOE), test specification and test definition
Team management skills, including knowledge of one or several of the following: waterfall development, SCRUM or agile, CMMI and SW-QA, PMP/PMI.
SW and Systems design documentation methodologies and tools: UML, SysML.
Knowledge of SW Coding Standards (MISRA-C).
Appreciated: Experience in any of the following would be viewed positively:
DevOps infrastructure: Continuous integration strategies and tools (e.g. Jenkins).
Language Skills:
English (Native or High level, spoken and written). Appreciated: Spanish.
