RoleYou will bring creativity, technical knowledge, and architectural experience to support the design, development, and implementation of new capabilities within a global Data Infrastructure programme that facilitates engineering and data automation. You will support the delivery of data capabilities across the organisation and engage with project teams on adopting newer ways of working. You will bring technical excellence and a passion for building and operating scalable, secure, distributed systems and automating these wherever possible. The role sits within the Digital Hub and Data Infrastructure Team, reporting to the ADIS technical leads and UKIMEA Chief Data Officer. You will work closely with senior colleagues in data science, data engineering, product management, software development, automation, Digital Technology Group (corporate IT), and other business groups.Your core responsibilities and objectives in this role will be to:Collaborate with Development and/or Engineering leads to support lower-level Technical Architecture and/or software architecture development.Develop architecture for Arup Data platform capabilities and services in the cloud, including investigation and selection of implementation options.Work closely with Product Owners and Product Managers to understand customer & client requirements and design solutions for new and existing data capabilities and services.Review and advise on technical solutions proposed by the development teams to ensure they are the appropriate solution for the problem.Engage with service portfolio initiatives around technology simplification, resilience, stability.Drive realization of the Digital Technology Strategy goals, e.g., cloud-first.Consider Cloud security requirements and work with other architects and security experts to inherently design this into solutions architecture principle design.Document Solution Design to meet requirements defined by Business stakeholders typically captured by Business Analysts.Engage with Design Authority groups to ensure and assess strategic alignment, business value, and technical risk.Collaborate with Services Leaders and Engineers in Digital Technology to define standards, policies, and patterns.Provide technical leadership to the engineering community, maintain knowledge of technology developments in relevant fields and ensure Arup keeps up to date in its use of tools and software solutions.Demonstrate and support the uptake of best practices in software development, including agile methods, test-driven development, CI/CD.Requirements and SkillsYou know that architecture is as much about ways of working as it is about the technology and have demonstrable experience of leading and mentoring others on this journey.
