SummaryResponsibilitiesThe role requires someone who can seamlessly mesh technical know-how with business acumen to help navigate R&D cloud and physical computing needs, including infrastructure design, implementation, maintenance, support, and capacity planning.
Lead as the IT advocate for corresponding site's scientists and have the accountability for delivering digital capabilities to the site, as the representative of IT delivery team for R&ED.Enable and support R&ED scientists running scientific experiments in the research compute environment.Collaborate with scientists and IT staff to design and implement effective cloud-based and on-premises solutions for research.Implement solutions as needed, troubleshoot or debug to resolve technical support issues for research teams following policies and procedures.Job RequirementsBachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, data science, or a scientific discipline in chemistry, biology, or medical-related field, or relevant industry experience.Strong verbal and written communications skills, organized, and the ability to stay focused on completing tasks and meeting goals.Five to seven years' experience in supporting on-premises and cloud infrastructure using Linux and/or Windows operating systems.Three to five years' experience in a Cloud Engineer role or related position.Proficiency in shell scripting (BASH, SH, CSH) in Linux/UNIX.Familiar with using various storage solutions and protocols (S3, EBS, EFS, NFS, CIFS).Solid understanding of networking and internet protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, HTTP and distributed networks.Familiar with HPC utilizing SGE, Amazon Parallel Cluster, Batch, Docker, and Google (GCP).Working knowledge of one or more of the following: R, Python, XML, JSON, YAML.Experience using monitoring solutions like CloudWatch and Audit trail.Knowledge of web services, API, REST and RPC.Database experience, including knowledge of SQL and NoSQL, and related data stores.Extensive experience with open-source technology, scripting and system engineering.An understanding of writing Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), using tools like CloudFormation or Terraform.Certification as an AWS Solutions Architect, Cloud Security Certification, and/or OpenStack Administrator Certifications is a plus.
