External Scientific Engagement Head Pipeline Location: ALXN Global R&D Hub (Barcelona)
Reports To: Head of External Scientific Engagement, Global R&D Hub
This is what you will do: The ESE Head Pipeline is a scientific resource based in one of the Alexion R&D Hubs, who strategically builds & supports the Global External Scientific Engagement Strategy for the early stage assets of Alexion's portfolio/pipeline in his/her Therapeutic Area. The ESE Head Pipeline will have key responsibility to collaborate with ALXN Global stakeholders to identify, engage and establish strong collegial and professional relationships/partnerships with Key Studies Investigators and Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) globally - through Strategic Consulting Groups & Global events - and collect relevant actionable insights in new fields of engagement. The ESE Head Pipeline will work very closely with Global Clinical Development (R&D TA Head & Medical Directors), Global Clinical & Country Operations, Global Medical Affairs, and all cross-functional Global stakeholders to ensure the successful design and performance of Alexion´s clinical trials, from early phases of development up to successful confirmatory studies. He/she will also maintain a very close collaboration with all Medical Advisor Pipeline (MAP) in the Countries, to ensure proper External Scientific Engagement at country level, and regular bi-directional updates and alignment on strategic medical plans for each individual study at the country level. The ESE Head Pipeline will report directly to the Head of External Scientific Engagement, Global R&D Hub in Barcelona.
You will be responsible for: Global KEEs Engagement in key indications in the TA & Long-term Partnership
Develop and maintain the highest scientific and medical expertise in the relevant fields and be acknowledged internally and externally as an expert & resource in the assigned therapeutic area/indications.
Identify and address relevant insights gaps with the SCG and KEEs Communities, and relay those to Global Stakeholders & MAP team.
Obtain valuable and actionable insights from the field to be shared with internal stakeholders.
Ensure timely and informative scientific/medical exchanges with customers and internal partners, in accordance with compliance policies and with legal requirements.
Global R&D Clinical Trials Support
Drive identification of potential sites and investigators for clinical trials.
Enhance clinical operations efforts to improve recruitment & retention by possible education, training, MAP clinical discussions with site's team, e.g. on in- and exclusion criteria.
Strong collaboration with (but not limited to): Global Clinical Development, Global Clinical Operations & Country Operations, Global Medical Affairs teams, Global Project Team cross-functional members.
You will need to have: MD or Pharma D with expertise in the desired Therapeutic Area
Minimum 10 years of combined experience in Medical Affairs, Clinical Development or KEEs engagement roles
Knowledge of Clinical Development, Healthcare system and Market access environment
Previous experience in rare diseases is an advantage
Willingness to travel (up to 30 % of time)
Fluency in English is a must, other relevant languages is an advantage
