ESG Analyst, ESG Development & Impact

General Description:
- The open position is within the ESG Development and Impact team which is one of the 4 areas reporting into Telefónica's Chief Sustainability Officer.
- The goal of the ESG Development and Impact area is to consolidate and widen Telefónica's ESG leadership position in order to boost inflows to the company based on our ESG performance.
- To do this, we must raise awareness of ESG achievements, stretch commitments and report progress to internal and external stakeholders.
- Stakeholders include: Customers, NGOs, Regulatory bodies, ESG rating agencies, investment banks and industry analysts, and in particular, for this function, the ESG investment community.
- The ESG Analyst will play a key role in developing Telefónica's ESG equity story and managing projects, which engage external stakeholders.
Main functions:
The ESG Analyst's main objective will be to support our engagement with the ESG investment community, with a view to increasing ESG-oriented capital (passive as well as active). Responsibilities include:
- Help develop and consolidate ESG equity story and track progress against targets making sure we are responding to investors' ESG regulatory needs, (i.e. providing information to fulfil their disclosure requirements)
- Prepare and manage ESG content for earnings releases (quarterly results), annual reports and other publications, working with Investor Relations, the ESG team and the wider business to draw together the most relevant updates to present to the market.
- Coordinate institutional investor engagement (front and back-office duties):
- Coordinate and prepare investor meetings: create materials for roadshows and bilateral meetings, including Q&A for specific topics, background research (investor profile, fund mandate, etc.).
- Create and manage investor CRM with contact details, meeting notes, etc.
- Target investors - lead projects to target untapped opportunities to increase investment in Telefónica from ESG thematic funds
- Monitor investors' investment activity in TEF
- Track TEF's presence in ESG indices and monitor link to passive funds
- Coordinate and manage controversy responses to main rating agencies.
- Wider stakeholder engagement with customers, NGOs & regulatory bodies in the form of questionnaires, events, RFQs, positioning papers etc.
- Supporting ESG ratings activities - reviewing answers and information provided to ensure fully aligned with the equity story and with a view to improving the final rating.
- Support with ESG Comms - including relevant Press releases, quarterly newsletter, ad hoc reports and CSRD reporting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Business/Finance/Mathematics
- Environmental management/ sustainability specific qualifications would be highly valued - as would a Masters in a related discipline /MBA.
Skills required:
- Fluency in English. Spanish, Portuguese and German are an asset.
- High level of analytical skills and critical thinking.
- Excellent organisational and project management skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to energise others & build working relationships to get things done.
- Great communication skills - ability to translate ideas into clear, high impact messages.
Desirable knowledge and experience:
- 2-3 years relevant work experience is desirable. Highly qualified graduates are welcome to apply.
- Financial background and knowledge of investment processes and/or investor relations would be valuable.
- Passion and interest in ESG trends and challenges.
