We are looking for an experienced Environmental Planner to prepare CEQA and NEPA documents for a diverse mix of clients and project types.
The Environmental Planner in this role will work closely with, and under the direction of a Senior Environmental Planner and/or a supervisor and other environmental planning staff.
As an integral part of our team, the Environmental Planner in this role will participate in diversifying our client base and actively seeking new opportunities to build our planning practice.
The Environmental Planner will collaborate with a Senior Environmental Planner and/or supervisor in the creation and execution of a strategic plan, propelling the growth of our team in both scale and services.

In this role you have the option to work in person, fully remote (within California), or in a hybrid capacity.
Occasional travel may be required for site visits, meetings, public hearings, etc.In this role, you will:Serve as a project manager and leader related to environmental planning and permitting projectsWrite and prepare all levels of CEQA and NEPA documentsManage the preparation of Categorical Exemptions, Initial Studies/Mitigated Negative Declarations, and Environmental AssessmentsWork closely with other team leaders and project delivery teams to win and deliver projectsAdvise project managers, based on coordination with subject matter experts, on technical issues that may require changes in scope and additional feesCoordinate and build relationships with technical subconsultants on proposal and project effortsContribute to a collaborative environment in support of client needs and company goalsParticipate in strategic initiatives to grow and diversify our environmental planning practiceMentor and train junior-level technical staff, and provide oversight of technical work products that include CEQA and NEPA documentsOther duties as assignedTo be successful in this role, you will need:A Bachelor's degree in environmental studies, science, planning, or related field5 to 10 years of relevant experience preparing CEQA and NEPA documents with a track record of increasing responsibility and the ability to manage increasingly complex projectsAn understanding of current planning law and practiceA proven track record of building new client relationships and managing existing client relationships effectivelySelf-awareness, the ability to self-regulate, and a growth mindsetA desire and ability to work in a team environmentExperience preparing CEQA and NEPA documentsExperience with Caltrans Local Assistance Program guidelinesWRA has an established internal leveling system for our staff that maps to salary bands that have been informed by market data.
Our leveling system is dependent on years of relevant industry experience, education, and the level of responsibility and autonomy at which you're expected to operate.
*The salary range for this position is $100,000 – $130,000 depending on experience which represents 2 job levels that WRA is open to considering for this role.
