Purpose of the role We are looking for a dynamic Environmental Tax and Compliance Specialist to join our team. This critical role is focused on developing and implementing tax strategies to minimize the financial impacts of plastic and waste taxes on our clients' operations across the EU, while ensuring full compliance with relevant EU legislation, including the Directive on Single-Use Plastics and EUDR requirements. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of EU environmental regulations and taxation policies and will be skilled in cross-functional collaboration.
Key responsibilities: Tax Planning and Optimization: Develop and implement strategies to minimize the impact of EU plastic and waste taxes on client operations. Identify and leverage tax incentives and credits for adopting sustainable and eco-friendly practices. Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Conduct risk assessments to identify potential environmental, regulatory, and fiscal risks associated with clients' operations. Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to ensure robust compliance with all applicable EU legislation. Process Improvement for Operational Efficiency: Design and implement processes that enhance efficiency in compliance, reporting, and tax optimization activities. Continuously evaluate and refine processes to adapt to changing regulations and business needs, ensuring maximum efficiency and effectiveness. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of all compliance measures, risk assessments, tax optimization strategies, mitigation plans, and process improvements. Prepare and assist clients in submitting required reports to EU authorities. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Engage regularly with internal tax teams, supply chain management, data teams, and operational teams to ensure a coordinated approach to environmental taxation and compliance. Facilitate information sharing and integrated strategy development across departments to optimize performance and compliance. Educational Outreach: Conduct workshops and training sessions to educate clients on the implications of EU plastic and waste tax policies, risk management, and process efficiencies. Stay informed of industry trends and update clients with the latest information and best practices. Research and Analysis: Research emerging issues, technologies, and solutions pertinent to plastic and waste management. Analyze industry data to identify trends and recommend innovative, sustainable practices. Skills, knowledge, experience and exposure Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Business, Taxation, or related field. An advanced degree is a plus. Proven experience in environmental consulting, tax advisory, or a closely related field. Comprehensive understanding of EU plastic and waste management regulations, including EUDR and CSDDD requirements. A deep understanding of EU environmental regulations and taxation policies. Demonstrated ability to navigate and resolve industry-specific challenges in plastic and waste reduction. Strong technical acumen would be a plus. Fluency in English is a must. The mindset to navigate the role Strong analytical, research and investigation skills – ability to interpret large amounts of data and synthesize conclusions. Advanced critical thinking, ability to interpret complex legal and regulatory frameworks. Excellence in managing multiple projects simultaneously and bringing them to completion. Ability to identify challenges with ease and take a proactive approach to problem solving. Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to form relationships, build rapport and work successfully with teams across the business demonstrating a truly global mindset. A meticulous approach with a drive to leave no stones unturned. Role Requirements The role will be preferably based in any of the following EMEA locations: Spain, UK, Poland, Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic.
