JOB PURPOSE To provide specialized instruction to students for whom English is an additional language, supporting their language development and integration into the school community.
TEACHING AND LEARNING Creating a nurturing environment that fosters language acquisition and academic success.Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that cater to the diverse language needs of EAL students, focusing on reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.Assess students' language proficiency levels and monitor their progress, adjusting instruction and support as needed to ensure effective learning.Work closely with classroom and subject teachers to integrate language support into the curriculum, providing strategies to help EAL students access content across subjects.Create and maintain English learning plans for students, addressing their specific language needs and educational goals.Foster an inclusive classroom environment that celebrates diversity and encourages respect and understanding among all students.Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about their child's progress and involve them in their child's education, providing resources as needed.Stay current with best practices in EAL instruction and participate in ongoing professional development to enhance teaching skills.Be involved in school trips.Maintain confidentiality.Maintain professional standards, especially in dress, punctuality, and attendance.PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS Experience working with EAL students in a primary classroom setting.Strong understanding of second language acquisition theories and best practices.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.University degree.Recognized teaching qualification.Minimum of 2 years of relevant teaching experience.Excellent written and spoken English (essential); good knowledge of Spanish (desirable).Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and the wider school community.Knowledge of Child Protection or Safeguarding procedures.Proficiency with Office 365 for communication, creating documents, and presentations.Strong cross-cultural, interpersonal, and communication skills for interacting with diverse nationalities and cultures.Excellent analytical skills with a passion and drive to demonstrate and quantify success.Strong time management skills and flexibility in handling multiple tasks.At Nord Anglia Education, we are committed to providing a world-class, safe, happy environment in which children and young people can thrive and learn.
