Context And Mission
The Language Technologies Unit at BSC has extensive experience in several NLP areas, including massive language model building, biomedical text mining, and machine translation. The LT Unit is currently in charge of key projects aimed at developing AI resources for Spanish and Catalan. The successful candidate will lead a motivated team of ML engineers in a highly sophisticated HPC environment.
Key Duties Lead a team of ML engineers, data engineers, and computational linguists. Take ownership of model and software development for prototypes. Support the Speech team leader in technical project aspects. Determine team priorities concerning deliveries. Write requirement documents for prototype development. Participate in technical meetings with collaborators. Ensure successful delivery of results. Represent the speech team in coordination meetings. Mentor junior team members. Apply for research projects and write research papers. Requirements Education
Master's degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Applied Linguistics, or related disciplines. PhD is a plus. Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
At least 2 years of experience in leading engineering teams. At least 4 years of experience in deep learning frameworks. Published papers on deep learning, specifically in speech. Experience in project management and product development. Knowledge of version control tools and MLOps best practices. Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
Experience in developing speech-to-text models. Strong understanding of linguistic concepts. Fluency in English; proficiency in Spanish and other European languages is advantageous. Native or good level of spoken and written Catalan is a plus. Competences

Conditions Location: BSC within the Life Sciences Department. Full-time contract (37.5h/week) with a good working environment. Duration: 4 years. Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December. Salary: 50,000.00€. Additional Expenses Grant for IT equipment, travel, training, etc. Starting date: ASAP, before 16th December 2024.
