Responsibilities: Leads and manages innovation & development, master planning/concept design, standards and technical review. Leads regional design team partners to adopt and accommodate standards and best practices for design. Collaborates with construction and procurement teams to effectively procure, install, and commission design solutions. Collaborates with operations teams to ensure design standards and best practices with their requirements. Supports Site Operations to troubleshoot/tune existing systems. Develops a roadmap for innovation, investigation of new products and services, and how they will be assimilated into standards. Develops PDC's designs and core design philosophies such as reliability, safety, sustainability, and cost-efficiency with internal and external customers and suppliers. Provides master planning/concept designs as part of PDC's investment planning, review, and approval process. Oversees detailed technical review process with regional design leads to assure that project designs meet the design standards and business case requirements. Opines on proposed deviations to the standards or the requirements. Collaborates closely cross-functionally – Construction, Procurement, Operations, Sales, Product, Marketing, Corporate Development, etc – to represent and develop all data center design requirements. Works closely with Construction, Procurement, and Operations to find a balance between cost-effective solutions & operational sustainability. Meets with customers to understand and incorporate requirements. Leads mechanical design efforts for deployment of new data centers, ensuring corporate standards and customer requirements are met. Interfaces and leads mechanical design consultants and contractors on a per-project basis. Coordinates review process of engineering studies of all types and visits job sites for field investigations and coordination meetings. Acts as Subject Matter Expert (SME) responsible for technical reviews including engineering studies/analyses. Leads all aspects of the review process of engineering studies. Provides oversight and review of project level design plans, equipment, and system submittals. Manages internal and external design teams and design consultants. Coordinates heavily with internal teams across all areas to ensure products delivered into operation are streamlined and optimized to meet the needs of the business across all functions. Assists in development and maintenance of sustainability benchmarking and innovation to incorporate sustainable technology in a cost-effective manner. Leads project design team meetings and ensures product constructed meets engineering standards and specifications. Utilizes engineering analysis programs and professional judgment to analyze the following: Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) studies Psychrometric chart evaluation ASHRAE extreme annual design day temperatures and relative impact to supply air temperatures Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) calculations. Participation in FWT of critical equipment. Reviews consultants' engineering calculations, runs independent engineering and cost analysis. Researches new designs, materials, and construction methods for data center HVAC equipment and related components. Travels to data center sites for engineering studies, mechanical systems audits, startup testing, and full commissioning, as required. Responds on an as-needed basis to emergencies.
