The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its Operations Directorate (OPS) – Equity, Growth Capital and Project Finance Department (EGPF) – Project Finance West Division (EGPF 4) – Iberia & MA Unit (IBMA), at its EIB office in Madrid, Spain: TRAINEE

Objective of the traineeship
The Project Finance West Division (EGPF 4) is in charge of structuring Project Finance operations in countries such as Spain, Portugal, Italy and other Western and Southern European countries. The team is at the forefront of financing energy and infrastructure projects in these markets.
The objective of the traineeship is to provide a solid, hands-on learning experience by supporting front office staff on the significant infrastructure and energy investments happening in the region, in particular in the Iberian Peninsula.
This would provide an opportunity for the successful applicant to take a first step into the infrastructure and energy finance community as well as to develop an understanding of how the EIB uses private sector instruments to accomplish public policy goals.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Head of Unit, you will actively participate in the team's core activities by supporting the local Loan Officers, in particular for financial analysis:
Review of project and financial documents;Fill-in financial spreadsheets, work on financial models and credit reviews;Assist in filling-in certain internal approval documents with information already available;Assist in cross-checking consistency and formatting of internal documents.
You will also participate in the preparation of sector studies (energy, infrastructure, telecom), including emerging sub-sectors (Green H2, Critical Raw Materials extracting and processing, Affordable Housing, Data Centre), helping to consolidate knowledge gained on precedent transactions.
Academic qualifications and professional skills Final year of studies or University degree in economics, finance, engineering (with finance background);Good knowledge of financial analysis, corporate finance, business planning;Knowledge of infrastructure and/or energy sectors and project finance will be a plus;General understanding of main financing products (loans, bonds, subsidies, etc.);Ability to work with certain autonomy, to respect deadlines and to deliver as per expected quality;Advanced knowledge of MS Office tools, in particular Word, Power Point and Excel;Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English, ideally complemented by fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese.
