Based in Bilbao, Spain – With travel to European locations As part of the development and updating of our global operations, we are currently recruiting a Director Projects Minerals, with regional responsibility for delivering capital projects >EUR 1 million in Western and Southern Europe (Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, and Turkey).
The Director Projects will have a portfolio of medium-sized projects, some of which he/she will manage him/herself, and some will be managed by local PMs reporting to him/her.
The Director Projects will be responsible for and coordinate the entire life cycle of the assigned projects, from scope definition and resource planning to commissioning, ensuring all projects are managed with an ownership mindset, adding value and maintaining integrity.
With the support of the "Design" and "Electrical + Automation" Engineering teams during the design phase, you will ensure sound project planning, budgeting, scheduling, resource management/organization, as well as risk assessment/mitigation. You will also cooperate with the Procurement team to ensure a robust sourcing strategy.
With an engineering background in a heavy industrial environment (mining/minerals, cement, aggregates, etc.), you must have experience in overseeing various greenfield and brownfield industrial projects, where minerals technology is a key element.
With at least a bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical Design, Process Automation, Electrical Design, or Civil Design), you will also have formal Project Management training and at least 10 years of experience in an industrial environment (preferably mining/minerals but also construction, cement, or aggregates) within a global industrial organization. You will also have strong business acumen, a sound understanding of project evaluations, and the ability to interpret an NPV model.
Fluent French and English are vital for this role. Spanish is also beneficial, as the role will be based in Bilbao, Spain.
