Job Description:
The Director of Strategy is a highly visible and influential role; pivotal to the future success of the organisation as it enters a phase of accelerated growth. The role reports to the Chief Commercial Officer – EMAP and serves as a member of the EMAP Senior Management Team.
The Director of Strategy will be responsible for the development of Experian's EMAP strategy over the short, medium, and longer term, and a centre of excellence for market intelligence. Typical activities will involve:
Market Analysis: trends, ecosystem developments, clients, competitors, M&A activity, etc.Business Planning: EMAP Strategic Plan (mid-long range), Market plans (short-range – annual process aligned to budget setting) and definition, prioritization, and tracking of strategic initiatives.Corporate Development: Inorganic (M&A, Venture investments), organic (market entry strategy, acceleration and/or restructuring plans), and adjacencies (opportunity evaluation and GTM strategy development).Business Unit / Market Strategy: Partner with EMAP MDs in the development of the strategy for their product portfolios/geographies.Core outputs will involve the creation of strategy papers & PPTs for executive/board level audiences, market sizing models/scenario modelling, strategy execution plans, and market insight reports & analysis.
The role will drive strategic, commercial, and operational rigor and build competitive advantage for our business – leading divisional efforts in monitoring and analyzing the marketplace to proactively find new opportunities and anticipate potential adjustments to our strategy. This will involve tracking industry, technology, and market trends, developing future market scenarios, managing the views of our opportunity and competitive landscapes, and driving competitive strategy developments.
The Director of Strategy EMAP will work closely with the EMAP leadership team and their SMTs, so the ability to articulate the strategic landscape and competitive strategies, identify growth opportunities, crisply communicate business implications, and drive action within the business are instrumental for success in this role.
Primary Accountabilities: Gather, analyze, and evaluate market research, competitors, and industry trends to develop and implement strategic plans for accelerated profitable growth & customer retention/advocacy.Manage the EMAP strategic planning cycle and the processes for delivery of the plan to ensure total alignment at regional EMAP & Country levels.Support evaluation of acquisition, joint venture, and divestment opportunities within EMAP to accelerate growth, working actively with EMAP exec, EMAP Corporate Development, and Group Strategy.Align and coordinate EMAP strategy with Group/Business Unit strategy.Offer Strategic Analysis, Competitive Intelligence, and Scenario Thinking/Modelling to drive strategic action.Spearhead strategy projects on key business opportunities to achieve the Strategy ambition.Create strategy communication plans and follow through to keep strategy well understood and fresh in the minds of our people.Specific Requirements: Creation of high-quality strategy materials (PPT and Word) for an Exec/Board audience.Market segmentation and sizing analysis – creation of a Market Model for EMAP.Creation and refinement of a 5-year EMAP strategic plan and annual market plans.Undertake strategic and financial analyses, including project appraisals to assess viability and impact on the business.Creation and delivery of white-space analysis tools for sales account planning.Facilitation of Exec strategy workshops.Project management of selected strategic projects.Qualifications: ESSENTIAL: Degree educated.Proven experience of strategy development (5+ years) in top-tier consulting firms.A breadth of knowledge of strategic tools and frameworks.Ability to create high-quality strategy material (PPT and Word) for an Exec/Board audience.Considerable experience of working with senior management and/or decision makers.Experience of designing end-to-end solutions and strategies encompassing thorough macro and micro analysis, industry knowledge, and business direction.Proven ability to work across borders and geographies with a high level of cultural awareness and sensitivity.DESIRABLE: Knowledge of Big Data solutions and/or high-end B2B services and/or banking/financial services/Telco, or a solid working knowledge of these sectors gained from consultancy experience.Additional experience in a business development role at a major corporate.People management experience (2+ years).MBA from a top-tier business school.Specific Behaviours: Structured, organized, and accurate.Customer centric.Commercially credible.Passionate about innovation, product development, and scaling businesses profitably.Strong communicator with the ability to communicate across levels to establish and maintain credibility.Goal-oriented – tenacious achiever of business challenges – prepared to go over & above whenever required.Ability to build and maintain strong relationships across the business – senior levels.
