The main responsibilities of this role are:
Provide strategic guidance on the constantly changing environment to prevent barriers of access and reimbursement for SMEs.
Inform our client of the political, marketing, and communication ecosystem and provide counseling to counteract potential obstacles.
Provide pragmatic solutions for policies that may negatively impact credit rating or our client's ability to operate successfully.
Identify policy/public affairs opportunities for SMEs.
Work closely with SMEs to co-create strategies that enhance their commercial success and legal safety reputation.
Work on external and internal communications to maximize our client's image, reputation, and quality services.
Enhance SMEs capabilities to develop multidisciplinary strategies that inspire innovative solutions for other international market and political trends.
Ensure that SMEs are fully equipped with the necessary global and policy resources to support their engagement with our client.
Identify international advocacy opportunities with the Spanish, French, and German governments (or other regional bodies) to enhance SMEs and our client's priorities.
Lead our client's international growth agenda when necessary.
The requirements expected of this role are:
Proven experience in Director of External Affairs, meaning:
10+ years experience in positions of responsibility in government affairs, public affairs or public policy in the financial, trade and/or government sector.
Experience conducting external affairs strategies at a regional or country level.
An understanding of how governments make decisions and what types of input affect those decisions.
Excellent strategic thinking, decision-making, and tactical skills.
Political sensitivity and integrity while dealing with high-profile stakeholders such as elected officials, executives and a variety of external constituencies including governments and leaders of multilateral organizations.
Strong analytical, critical thinking and interpersonal skills.
Excellent written and verbal skills for communicating clearly and persuasively.
Knowledge of emerging communication trends and technologies.
Strong organizational skills.
Flexibility and ability to adapt to change.
Resourcefulness and creativity.
Detail-oriented.
Ability to work under deadlines and in a united, yet highly demanding culture.

Bachelor's degree and advanced degree in a related field such as law, public administration, political science, public administration or policy.
