Reporting into the Country Global Medical Affairs Lead, and a member of the local Global Medical Affairs Leadership Team (LGMALT), the Director Medical Affairs Oncology will oversee the Medical Affairs activities in that specific Therapeutic Area, to ensure that these activities build trust by being: (1) medically and scientifically valid; (2) ethically and legally correct, and (3) supportive of the company's business in this field.
The Director Medical Affairs -under the leadership of the country GMA Lead- will work towards ensuring the achievement of the Company's global and local objectives, through the harmonized and coordinated management of Therapeutic Area Leads, to whom report Medical Advisors, Medical Science Liaisons, and/or Administrative Assistants.
MAIN ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensuring their team's focus on customers, including patients, by understanding and meeting their needs.Influencing the individual and collective behaviours of all team members to establish a culture in alignment with Our Company's Culture & Leadership Standards, while ensuring adherence of their team to the highest standards of trustworthy and ethical behavior in all interactions and hold others to the same standards; comply with all Company SOPs, GDPs and policies, as well as all applicable laws and regulations; identify and address ethical issues without hesitation.Ensuring the correct development of the core competences of Medical Affairs in their team.Developing and maintaining a strong culture of collaboration and seamless interactions between team members and local brand teams and other functions in the local subsidiary (Business Units, Policy & Communication, Legal, Market Access, Customer Engagement, Training & Development, Business Development, etc.
), as well as with regional and global stakeholders (primarily through effective RMAT interaction).Establishing a coordinated approach to Medical Affairs in the therapeutic area by: (1) ensuring a common understanding of the Medical Affairs role and competences among all team members; (2) setting clear performance criteria and metrics for team members; (3) enhancing fluid communication; (4) facilitating best practice sharing; and (5) developing backup plans in the case of contingencies.Establishing a coordinated collaborative approach with GCTO (global clinical trials operations) based on investigator relationship management and medical/scientific expertise in support of company-sponsored clinical development programs and local clinical evaluations (LCEs) in the therapeutic areas.Performing periodic performance evaluation of the different team members (and setting up action plans if needed) to ensure their continuous improvement.Building and retaining talent with the capabilities and diversity necessary to succeed in the local market; inspire, reward and develop to ensure each individual in the team optimizes his/her potential; make tough calls when necessary.Monitoring the timely development and flawless execution of CMAPs, Scientific Platforms, and SL Engagement Plans in alignment with local and regional business needs and the GMAPs.Ensuring accuracy of Life Cycle Medical (LCM) budget execution in the therapeutic areas.Assuring the correct Medical and Scientific support to the Business Units (BU): Training, strategic input to the BU, alignment with the BU Strategy, Knowledge Management, Specific Medical Review Issues, ICBPs, and POR/CBL Meetings.Planning human and logistic resources to guarantee executional excellence in the implementation of the CMAPs, Scientific Platforms, and SL Engagement Plans.Interacting with Franchise Managers and Business Unit Managers to facilitate Medical Affairs support of an integrated portfolio approach.QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Degree in Medicine (preferably with postgraduate training in a clinical specialty, i.e., Medical Oncology).At least 6 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry.Documented experience in Medical Affairs preferably in two or more therapeutic areas, including Oncology, with demonstrated ability to interact effectively with Medical and Science Leaders.Documented experience in Clinical Research.Ability to work in matrix organizations.Strong leadership skills (experience in managing direct reports is mandatory).International experience is a plus.Building Effective Team/Talent.Relationship Building & Influence.Customer Centric.Business Acumen.Analytical & Critical Thinking.Planning, Organizing & Executing.Scientific, Medical & Clinical Practice Knowledge.Leadership: Driving Transformational Change.Strategic Thinking.Global Perspective/Diversity.Technical Skills.The Director Medical Affairs' designation to a concrete set of therapeutic areas may vary over time based on the needs of the Company.
