Main PurposeThe core purpose of the Deputy Head is to provide professional leadership in the management of Palma College in an exemplary manner and proactively support staff and students.The Deputy Head must play a lead role in establishing a culture that promotes respect, equality, and encourages the best academic outcomes for all students.The Deputy Head assists in providing vision, leadership, and direction, working with the Head and others to support the continuous evaluation of the College's performance to identify the priorities for improvement, staff and student well-being, and maintenance of the ethos.2.
Main TasksStrategic direction and development of Palma College.Provide inspiring and purposeful leadership for the staff and students.Work in partnership with the Head, staff, and parents to generate and uphold the ethos and values that underpin Palma College.Monitor, evaluate, and review the impact of policies, priorities, and targets of Palma College in practice, and take action if necessary.Ensure that all those involved in Palma College are committed to its aims, motivated to achieve them, and involved in meeting long, medium, and short-term objectives and targets which secure the educational success of Palma College.Keep up to date with current trends and new research relevant to Palma College that could enhance and extend the learning experience and/or working environment.Actively support the recruitment of prospective students.3.
Teaching, Learning, and Managing StudentsContinue to maintain an environment that promotes and secures good teaching, effective learning, high standards of achievement, and good behaviour.Ensure that students develop study skills in order to learn more effectively and with increasing independence.Help monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning and standards of achievement of all students in Palma College through appropriate methods.As a teacher, always maintain the highest standards of teaching and learning.
Set the example of an exemplary teacher to staff and students.Continue to maintain an effective, collaborative partnership with parents and the wider community to support and improve students' achievement, personal development, and well-being.Support the Head in identifying and planning appropriate INSET for all staff.Lead groups of staff in development activities and evaluate outcomes.Take the lead in the day-to-day positive behaviour management of all students and celebrate achievement so that their morale and self-esteem are high.4.
Leading and Managing StaffPromote and monitor the continuing professional development of staff, including the induction of newly qualified teachers and supporting staff when they have difficulties.Ensure that professional duties are fulfilled, as specified in the Terms and Conditions of Service of teachers
