col-wideJob Description:Deputy Editor(Job Number: SPA0027)**Description****JOB DETAILS****Department: News****Job Title**:Deputy** Editor****Reports To (title)**: Senior Editor****Career Level: 3****Location**: UK**Line Management Responsibility: Yes****Job Purpose**:The Deputy Editor will help us shape the future of Stats Perform News' industry-leading sports content, helping to drive fan engagement for a range of global media outlets, broadcasters and portals across a range of sports.The role will be key to driving the news and content agenda across our output, with responsibility of supporting the Senior Editor (News) to plan the day-to-day agenda, lead on major event planning, effectively manage the budget and making sure the wider operations team are sourcing the best raw footage and assets to allow our production teams to create engaging and dynamic storytelling.WHAT'S YOUR NEW ROLE ABOUT?The Deputy Editor will assist the planning and newsgathering of our daily sports news and content service which will enable our production team to create broadcast/digital/social and audio bulletins.They will drive the news agenda for the entire service working alongside production and editorial leads to deliver high-quality Video/Editorial content, powering syndication and bespoke content creation onwards to our diverse client base.You will manage a mix of Assistant Editors and Video journalists, coaching their development through the setting of clear goals and objectives with the Senior Editor. You will also work closely with other News stakeholders and teams to drive synergies across the wider department.They will, in addition, work in tandem with our Data, Data Insights, Marketing and Commercial teams to align all our functions and create synergies.The Deputy Editor will oversee their own content strands as well as make sure their reports are effectively managing their dedicated areas. Reporting to the Senior they will support with the quality control of our content; this will also include managing our worldwide network of freelance Video Journalists who support the newsgathering function. You will also be tasked with innovation our workflows and process to take Stats perform News to the next level. In the absence of the Senior Editor, you will lead the team, in the event of breaking news you will be one of the first to mobilse.HERE'S YOUR ROLE BROKEN DOWN (NOT ALL OF IT, JUST THE MOST IMPORTANT STUFF)Drive the day-to-day newsgathering of content for the department via assisting the management of the team of Assistant Editors/Video journalists, including planning, building relationships with external partners, federations, teams, agents and agencies.Undertake line management responsibilities for staff, including appraisals and reviews, mentoring and training.Driving synergies with other areas of the wider department, including the Data Insights/Video/Editorial teams.Reporting and contributing through presentation and innovative ideas to regular strategic planning with the Data Integration Editor, Production Editor and the Managing Editor of Operations.Effectively manage the newsgathering budget, including tracking and reporting costs to the Managing Editor of operations.Oversee the effective running of admin responsibilities within the team including the rota, payroll and finance functions.DO YOU HAVE THESE ESSENTIALS?Minimum five years' experience leading and driving a news team, including line management responsibility and leadership experience.Evidence of creating high-quality and innovative content for Editorial/Broadcast/Digital and social audiences.Excellent editorial judgement, including knowledge of media law.Excellent sporting knowledge.In-depth knowledge of relevant production systems, including where applicable Adobe Premiere Pro.Strong news sense and confidence in setting the daily agenda.IT WOULD BE GREAT IF YOU HAD THESE DESIRABLES TOOStrong understanding of commercialising content, either in a B2B or D2C environment.Experience of working in an international/multi-regional organization.Additional language skills (e.g. French, Dutch, German, Spanish, Italian).Experience of using data to drive the content agenda.THESE ARE THE STATS PERFORM COMPETENTCIES YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED IN YOUR NEW ROLESelf-motivated and driven to succeed, focused on results and passionate about the job.Working collaboratively with a group of people in order to accomplish a task or achieve a goal.Building and maintaining external and internal customer satisfaction with Stats Perform products, services and expertise.Understanding the impact on others and how to tailor approaches - Emotional Intelligence.HERE'S A LITTLE MORE ABOUT USStats Perform collects the richest sports data in the world and transforms it through revolutionary artificial intelligence (AI) to unlock the most in-depth insights for media and technology, betting and team performance.
