FACULTY OVERVIEW: The name 'Kwantlen' comes from the Kwantlen First Nation in whose traditional territory the university is located. The word 'Kwantlen' means Tireless Runner and is reflected in the university's motto: "through tireless effort, knowledge, and understanding." Chief Joe Gabriel of the Kwantlen First Nation bestowed the name on the institution, resulting in Kwantlen First Nation and Kwantlen Polytechnic University having a long history of partnership.

The Criminology Department at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) invites applications for up to 4 NR2 faculty positions at 50% (one-year, limited-term appointments).

The Criminology Department at KPU currently offers a Bachelor of Arts, Major in Criminology degree (with a thesis-based Honours option) as well as one- and two-year credentials. The Department emphasizes pedagogical principles and educational approaches that incorporate community-based research, professional development, and experiential learning across the curriculum, including service learning, practicum, and a co-op program option. The Criminology Department is a diverse collective of faculty members, representing academic research and/or practical, professional experience in the field, and is home to the Social Justice Centre. We are interested in applicants who reflect teaching and scholarship within our polytechnic mandate. Recruiting and retaining colleagues who reflect our diverse student body is a continuing goal of our department. Faculty are supported by a university-wide Anti-Racism Taskforce and the President's Diversity and Equity Committee.

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Criminology Department at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) invites applications for up to 4 NR2 50% contract positions, beginning September 1, 2024. The ideal candidates will have a proven record of excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level and academic expertise in Criminology or a related discipline.

The field of specialization is open and as such, the Criminology Department is particularly interested in candidates who can teach at least 2 of the following courses CRIM 1100 - Introduction to Criminology CRIM 1101 - Introduction to the Criminal Justice System CRIM 1208 - Research Methods in Criminology CRIM 1215 – Interpersonal and Professional Development CRIM 2204 – Criminal Justice and Psychology CRIM 2214 – Corrections: Theory and Practice CRIM 3100 - Advanced Theories of Crime and Community CRIM 3104 – Qualitative Research Methods CRIM 3118 – White Collar and Corporate Crime CRIM 3213 – Community Corrections CRIM 3310 – Restorative Justice CRIM 4245 - Indigenous Activism CRIM 4410 - Policy and Program Evaluation It would be an asset if the applicant could also teach one or more of the following courses:

CRIM 3120 - Organized Crime CRIM 3307 - Issues in Conflict Resolution CRIM 4301 - Community Advocacy and Human Rights All faculty in Criminology teach a combination of introductory and upper-level courses.

The successful candidates should be available to teach at our three campuses in Surrey, Richmond, or Langley. The ideal candidate will have a teaching record of excellence; online teaching experience is an asset.

SALARY INFORMATION:
Placement on the salary scale will be dependent on level of education and relevant teaching experience. Advancement up the pay scale is based on FTE and employment status.
