IE's Counseling Department operates under the Office of the Vice-Rector of Student Affairs to look after our undergraduate and postgraduate students' mental health and well-being. We provide prevention-based group activities, events, and individualized interventions that address our students' psycho-social and emotional needs.
We are looking for candidates to fill a Counselor position to work closely with the Department's team to focus on one-on-one interventions with students. The selected candidate will join the team of Guidance Counselors and will be available to meet with students requesting advice regarding the personal, social, and academic challenges they experience. Guidance Counselors provide guidance and support through expert advice and talk therapy on our campuses in Madrid and Segovia and have the responsibility to refer them to our clinical team if necessary.
Additionally, as part of the department's aim to disseminate information that is both informative and educational, the selected candidate, with the support of the Department's Director, will design, coordinate, implement, and deliver workshops and programs around the subject of mental health and illness, with an emphasis on subjects that commonly affect young and older adults such as stress, frustration, anxiety, depression, adjustment difficulties, and the like.
The selected candidate will be fully immersed in the day-to-day administrative tasks that are inherent to the aforementioned activities, including the management of meeting appointments, follow-ups, inter-departmental coordination, and preparing written reports.
Responsibilities: Hold one-on-one meetings with students requesting to speak to a guidance counselor for emotional support and advice. Propose and implement sustainable initiatives such as talks, workshops, and programs to educate the University's community in general and support our students in particular around topics on mental health. Assist in content creation on mental health and mental well-being for the department's website and social media channels. Assist the team as needed with ongoing projects and day-to-day administrative tasks. Actively learn about the particularities of our students' personal, social, and academic journeys at IE University. Qualifications: A master's or equivalent degree in Psychology, Life Coaching, or related field. Professional fluency both in English and Spanish (spoken and written). A minimum of three years of demonstrable work experience in mental health with a client- or patient-centered approach. Ability to work with students in distress through psychological first aid and follow proper protocol in emotionally charged situations. A well-developed sensitivity and intuitive response to mental health difficulties and diversity of all forms. The ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality is essential. Self-driven with excellent teamwork, project management, and problem-solving skills. Availability to commute to and from our campuses in Madrid and Segovia on a weekly basis. An international profile with work experience in higher education (ages 18-22 / 23-50), clinical settings, and culturally diverse environments is a plus.
