Job Description:
The Corporate Counsel, Employment - Europe (based in Spain) will join a world-class legal department providing advice and strategies on labor and employment law matters in Europe.
Primary responsibilities include: Supporting and advising business teams, including executives, managers, employee relations, information services, and operations regarding compliance with existing and forthcoming labor and employment laws and regulationsAdvising on issues such as discipline, non-competition, redundancies, leave, disability, contingent workers, pay equity, end of service gratuity, pensions, contractor management, occupational health and safety, antidiscrimination, wage and hour, and works council/union/labor relationsManaging litigation, outside counsel, and budgetsProviding representation and/or management of matters before employment and/or human rights tribunals and agenciesConducting and managing internal investigationsResponding to governmental subpoenas, investigations, and auditsDrafting and revising employment policies, standards, and internal work regulationsDrafting service provider, commission, non-compete, employment, non-disclosure, and settlement agreementsDeveloping and delivering client training on compliance with labor and employment lawsLeading responses to governmental inquiries into employment and labor related mattersPerforming project management work for legal projectsFormulating efficient resolution strategies to meet business objectivesProviding effective cross-functional support inside and outside of the legal departmentAssisting in developing and implementing departmental goals and initiativesTravel: Expected 5% to 15%; Valid passport/authorized to travel internationally
Qualifications:Juris Doctorate, Bachelor of Laws, or equivalent degree6-11 years of experience in a top law firm preferredIn-house experience working in the law department of a Fortune 500 company highly desirable, but not requiredStrong knowledge of and practical experience advising on labor and employment and labor laws and regulationsWorking knowledge of European labor and employment laws and regulationsPractical experience working with works council and trade unions preferredExperience in logistics, transport, and related sectors preferredStrong analytical, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skillsExcellent organizational skills with high level of attention to detail and accuracyExcellent business judgment and ability to work independentlyFluent oral and written English required and fluency in additional languages an assetAdditional Information Benefits:VacationMedical PlanEmployee Stock Purchase PlanTraining and education Program
