WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

ISGlobal is seeking a Community Health Worker (CHW) to join the Multi-country Viral Hepatitis Community-based Screening, Vaccination, and Linkage to Care (VH-COMSAVAC) study led by the ISGlobal Public Health Liver Group, as well as other research projects related to community-based public health responses to liver diseases in migrant communities, such as metabolic-dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD, formerly NAFLD), metabolic-dysfunction steatohepatitis (MASH, formerly NASH) and viral hepatitis.

The Community Health Worker will contribute to these objectives of VH-COMSAVAC by fostering trust within migrant communities and facilitating health interventions. They will be responsible for assisting with the project rollout by being a key focal person within the migrant community given that they are familiar with the experiences of the population. This person will work with the target community to build awareness, organize and conduct health outreach and engagement activities, and facilitate viral hepatitis screening and care. This position requires cultural sensitivity, language skills specific to the community, and an active presence within the designated migrant community to ensure a comprehensive approach to healthcare.
This person will be responsible for linking the project manager with relevant key community members in the greater Barcelona area, under the overall supervision of the project principal investigator and project manager.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

Belongs to one of the following migrant communities: West African (French-speaking, Wolof, other relevant languages), North African (Arabic-speaking), South Asian (Urdu, other relevant languages), Chinese, or Romanian.

An active, well-respected member of the designated migrant community within Catalonia.

Fluent in French, Arabic, Farsi, Chinese, Romanian, English and/or other local language spoken within the community.

Working proficiency in Spanish and English; Catalan is an asset.

Training in health or community services preferred, but not required.

Strong communication skills and cultural competence, with the ability to convey health information sensitively.

KEY RESPONSABILITIES

The Community Health Worker will be the focal person linking the project to their specific migrant community. They will facilitate contact with relevant community centres, associations, churches, mosques, etc. and their respective leaders in order to offer hepatitis B and hepatitis C screening and vaccination in these community-based settings. This person will work closely with the Project Manager and other Community Coordinators working in the project. Specifically, the Community Health Worker will have the following key responsibilities:
1. Community Engagement and Trust-Building

Act as a liaison between VH-COMSAVAC and the target migrant community to create a trusting environment for screenings and vaccination.

Coordinate community events to promote HBV and HCV health awareness, reduce stigma, and encourage participation in screenings.

2. Screening and Care Coordination

Organize and support point-of-care diagnostic screenings for HBV and HCV.

Act as a mediator, if needed, when the coordinators inform participants of results.

3. Culturally-Appropriate Health Education

Lead health talks in the community's native language to educate about viral hepatitis risks, preventive practices, and vaccination benefits.

Distribute accessible, culturally adapted health materials.

4. Data Collection and Community Insights

Maintain records of outreach activities, attend team meetings to update on community engagements and work with team members to organize health education and screening interventions.

Be present during community interventions as a link between the project staff and the community as needed.

Conduct interviews during interventions for data collection.

Provide insights and recommendations to improve VH-COMSAVAC strategies based on community needs.

Contract: part time 10 hours/week

Salary Range: Technician II - According to ISGlobal internal salary scale.

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process is designed in two phases:
1- Interview phase of a technical nature, with the team that requires the incorporation. To assess the person's skills and CV.
2 - Meeting with HR with the finalist(s) to finish assessing the profile and discuss contractual and institutional issues.

If needed any technical test could be passed. A Psychological Competency Evaluation Test will be required for the structural or transversal positions.

In accordance with the OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for every vacancy at the beginning of the process. After reviewing the content of the applications, the panel will start the interviews, with at least one technical and one administrative interview.
