Key Responsibilities As a Cloud-Based GIS Engineer, you will be responsible for building and managing GIS applications in cloud environments, applying your expertise to enhance data accessibility, usability, and analytics capabilities for our engineering projects. 1. GIS Application Development and Deployment - Design & Implement Cloud-Based GIS Solutions: Develop, implement, and manage scalable GIS solutions on cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, with a focus on security, reliability, and efficiency. - Develop APIs and Web Services: Create and maintain APIs for geospatial data processing, supporting data sharing across different applications and teams. - Automate Deployment Pipelines: Utilize CI/CD pipelines to streamline and automate GIS deployments, ensuring efficient and error-free releases. 2. Data Management & Analysis - Optimize Geospatial Data Storage: Design data models for cloud-based storage, handling large geospatial datasets efficiently while maintaining data integrity. - Data Analysis & Insights: Conduct spatial analysis, generate geospatial insights, and develop interactive maps and visualizations to support engineering projects and decision-making processes. - Database Management: Maintain and manage geospatial databases (such as PostGIS, Cloud SQL) and ensure optimal performance and data retrieval. 3. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Client Support - Collaborate with Engineering and Project Teams: Work closely with engineers, project managers, and stakeholders to understand GIS requirements, ensuring the development of robust solutions that meet project needs. - Train & Support: Assist team members in utilizing GIS tools effectively, provide training on new technologies, and support troubleshooting as needed. - Client Solutions & Customization: Tailor cloud-based GIS solutions to meet client-specific needs, addressing unique challenges and delivering high-quality results. 4. GIS Innovation & Continuous Improvement - Stay Current with GIS & Cloud Innovations: Keep up with emerging GIS and cloud trends, tools, and technologies, recommending best practices for continuous improvement. - Enhance System Performance: Continuously monitor and improve the performance of GIS applications, optimizing for speed, data accuracy, and user accessibility. - Data Security Compliance: Ensure that all GIS data storage and transfer methods are compliant with data protection and security standards. Skills & Qualifications The ideal candidate for the Cloud-Based GIS Engineer role should have a strong foundation in GIS technology, cloud computing, and a passion for innovative geospatial solutions. Educational Background - Bachelors or Masters Degree: Preferably in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geomatics, Computer Science, Geography, or a related field. Technical Skills & Experience - Proficiency in Cloud Platforms: Strong experience in AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform with a focus on cloud-native architecture. - GIS Software Proficiency: Skilled in ArcGIS Online, QGIS, Mapbox, or other GIS platforms, with a solid understanding of data visualization and spatial analytics. - Programming Languages: Proficient in Python, SQL, and other relevant programming languages for data manipulation, automation, and GIS operations. - Database Knowledge: Experience managing geospatial databases such as PostgreSQL/PostGIS, MongoDB, or similar, and an understanding of spatial indexing and query optimization. - Data Visualization Tools: Familiarity with tools like Tableau, Power BI, or D3.js for effective data presentation. Soft Skills - Analytical Thinking: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze and interpret geospatial data accurately. - Communication Skills: Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, and collaborate with cross-functional teams. - Independent & Team-Oriented: Proven ability to work independently in a remote environment while being an effective team player.
