Summarized Purpose: As a Contracts Manager, you will serve as a regional lead in managing the preparation, negotiation, and finalization of contract templates, process, and negotiation parameters (including contractual terms and conditions, and ancillary documents), and oversight of associated investigator grant budget(s), with an assigned workload of clients.
Ensures quality, objectivity, and risk analysis in the efficient delivery of contract templates, process, and negotiation parameters.
Responsibilities: Help influence the outcome of negotiations and ensure conformity to business needs, proper risk allocation, and compliance with the policies and procedures of the pharma services group.
Be a principled negotiator willing to stand up to unprincipled techniques and pressures.
Communicate with internal stakeholders and customers providing direction and guidance related to the contracting process.
Negotiate contentious issues at multiple levels both internally and with the customer's negotiation team, keeping risk exposure in mind.
Generate creative options to break through negotiation impasses that work for all parties.
Continually strive to make the contracting process more efficient, effective, and customer-centric.
Follow and help improve the tools used to ensure consistency of the negotiation process.
Maintain and utilize the database within the contract management system of current and terminated contracts.
Serve as liaison between the client and the manufacturing sites and business units during the negotiation phase of a project.
Able to work in a matrixed environment to get results from disparate stakeholders including sales, finance, marketing, legal, quality, and site management/operations.
Able to sell the value of the contracting role to the broader business.
Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in related discipline (preferably in Business or Life Sciences); MBA and/or JD or 6+ years of demonstrated negotiation experience in the pharmaceutical industry and/or Contract Manufacturing Organization (CMO) highly preferred.
Excellent communication skills, including English proficiency at an advanced level.
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
Superior communication skills with working knowledge of MS Office Applications.
Preferably contract experience doing high value and complex agreements in the life science industry (e.g., pharma, biotech, medical device).
Experience in FDA regulated industries a plus.
Proven track record dealing with complex contractual language.
Understanding the business and legal implications of various contract terms.
Able to generate creative options to overcome objections during negotiations.
Able to withstand pressure from customers and internal stakeholders when following a course of action based on broader principles rather than immediate commercial need.
Ability to assess needs of business and design and implement creative and durable solutions.
Ability to drive outcomes in a professional and constructive manner.
