Context And Mission

Within the Computational Earth Sciences group, the successful candidate will be part of the Models and Workflows team, tasked with improving and maintaining the existing software stack used to manage and monitor scientific experiments in different High-Performance Computing facilities, as well as providing support to the scientific groups of the Earth Sciences department.

The Models and Workflows team is dedicated to the research and development of methodologies and tools essential for efficiently using the variety of computing resources available at the BSC and in other HPC institutions. The team is composed of more than 18 members and has strong connections with the Performance and Data & Diagnostics teams, as well as with the scientific groups.
Key Duties Be the main responsible for the EC-Earth model department infrastructure, developing and maintaining the supporting software stack and workflow additions, taking care of the project repository and supporting scientific developments.Be in charge of the testing strategy and workflow documentation, improving the testing software for pseudo-automatic testing.Support scientific experiments by helping department users, addressing technical issues, and communicating further necessities to the team and developers.Collaborate with department members and other institutions to improve the system, communicating advances in department events such as training and tutorials or international workshops.Port the model, supporting software, and workflow to new platforms to sustain the department's scientific production.Requirements Education
Having a Bachelor in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Physics or related discipline. A Master's or PhD will be valued.

Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
Excellent development skills and experience with UNIX/LINUX environments. Knowledge of development and execution of scientific applications on parallel computers. Understanding of HPC computer architecture issues including CPU, accelerators, memory, interconnect, parallel I/O, and computational performance. Experience in executing numerical climate models.

Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
Experience with version control in a collaborative environment, including Git or SVN. Experience with Python programming and/or scripting languages (Bash). Previous experience with scientific Python packages (Numpy, Scipy, etc.) will be valued. Experience with testing procedures and containerization methodologies will be valued.

Competences
Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude are essential. The candidate should have a demonstrated learning capacity and motivation to maintain learning progression. Fluency in English and good written and verbal skills are required to support Earth and Computational scientists.
Conditions

The position will be located at BSC within the Earth Sciences Department. We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, and support for relocation procedures. Duration: Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project. Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus December 24th and 31st. Salary: Competitive salary based on qualifications and experience. Starting date: ASAP.
