Context and Mission: Within the Computational Earth Sciences group, the successful candidate will be part of the Models and Workflows team, responsible for improving and maintaining the software stack that manages and monitors scientific experiments in different High-Performance Computing facilities.
The candidate will work within the EC-Earth climate model ecosystem, which is developed and maintained by various institutions in Europe, including the BSC. This model will run on state-of-the-art systems such as the upcoming EuroHPC Pre Exascale systems.
Key Duties: Be the main responsible for the EC-Earth model department infrastructure, including developing and maintaining the supporting software stack.Be in charge of the testing strategy and workflow documentation.Support scientific experiments by addressing technical issues and communicating further necessities to the team.Collaborate with members of the department and other institutions.Port the model and supporting software to new platforms.Requirements: Education: Bachelor in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Physics, or related discipline. A Master's or PhD will be valued.
Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience: Excellent development skills and experience with UNIX/Linux environments.Knowledge of scientific applications on parallel computers.Understanding of HPC architecture issues.Experience in executing numerical climate models.Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience: Experience with version control (Git or SVN).Experience with Python programming and scientific Python packages.Experience with testing procedures and containerization methodologies.Conditions: The position will be located at BSC within the Earth Sciences Department. We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, flexible working hours, and a competitive salary.
