.Descripción: The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting-edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation into policy and education. ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non-communicable diseases including environmental and climate determinants, and applies a multidisciplinary scientific approach ranging from the molecular to the population level. Research is organized in five programs: Climate, Air Pollution, Nature and Urban Health; Environment and Health over the Lifecourse; Global Viral and Bacterial Infections; Malaria and Neglected Parasitic Diseases and Maternal Child and Reproductive Health. ISGlobal is accredited with the Severo Ochoa distinction, a seal of excellence of the Spanish Science Ministry.Lugar: BarcelonaWhat We Are Looking for: We are seeking one talented and highly motivated scientist to join the research team of Dr. Joan Ballester at ISGlobal within the framework of the project INSPEnCaT. INSPEnCaT aims to isolate this impact of climate change on air pollution in Catalonia with respect to other European regions. The analysis will be extended to associated changes in health impacts considering the confounding effects of ozone, nitrogen dioxide and particulate matter on human health. As a final goal, INSPEnCaT will inform policy-makers about possible future needs for more ambitious mitigation actions to achieve the Zero pollution objective in Catalonia.Field research: Computer science, Environmental scienceTRAINING AND EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS: - PhD or MsC in biostatistics or related discipline; - experience in the modelling of the environmental, socioeconomic and/or demographic drivers of human health; - experience in common programming languages, with particular focus on R; - experience with the management and analysis of large datasets, particularly climate and health data.SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS: Be willing to work in an inter-disciplinary team within a highly collaborative research institute.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: The epidemiological analyses and the health impact assessment will be done at the regional level for a large ensemble of Mediterranean and European regions, in order to assess and compare the health impacts in Catalonia in relative terms with the Mediterranean and European climates. Health impacts of the climate penalty will be quantified, both in present-day and future regional air pollutant emissions.SPECIFIC DUTIES: Quantification of the health burden attributable to the different air pollutants (mainly O3, but also NO2, PM2.5 and PM10) according to the simulations in the different scenarios.AUXILIAR TASK: This job description reflects the present requirements of the post but may evolve at any time in the future as duties and responsibilities change and/or develop providing there is appropriate consultation with the post-holder.SKILLS: - Teamwork; - Problem resolution; - Learning capacity
