FertigHy is looking for an entrepreneurial-minded Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to support the company in becoming a global champion of green nitrogen-based fertilizer production, starting with a first site in Spain and very quickly moving to other sites in France and elsewhere within Europe. This ambitious initiative will enable and accelerate the decarbonization of the food value chain.
The Role
The CTO will be the technology heart of the company, reporting directly to the CEO. As the CTO, you will be responsible for overseeing and driving the technological strategy and development of our green fertilizer manufacturing operations, a strategic plan that will attract and contribute to convincing potential investors.
You will collaborate closely with the executive team to ensure the successful implementation of our vision and mission. Your role will involve designing, optimizing, and scaling up our production processes, evaluating new technologies, and building a high-performing and diverse technical team. You should have a strong background in chemical engineering, experience in the fertilizer industry, and a passion for sustainable solutions.
You are responsible for the technical roadmap and realization of the first industrial plant (construction and operation phases). You will lead our technical collaborations with internal and external stakeholders incl. distributors & suppliers, energy providers, and system integrators and you will also ensure permitting processes and compliance with relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations.
More specifically with your team, you will be responsible for the following tasks:
Process Design and Optimization
Technical Team Leadership
Research and Development
Regulatory Compliance and Environmental Sustainability
A Bachelor's or a Master's degree in chemical engineering or a related field. A Ph.D. is a plus.
Proven experience in Technical Leadership roles, building a business from early stage to industrial maturity (not just leading business units) within the fertilizer manufacturing industry or a related field.
Experienced in the development of industrial units (permitting, homologation).
Strong expertise in green hydrogen production, Haber Bosch process, and related technologies.
Track record of successful process design, optimization, and scale-up in a manufacturing environment. A strong industry network would really set you apart!
A "can-do" mentality and an entrepreneurial mindset with passion for sustainability and environmentally friendly solutions.
Being able to identify, select, and engage the right stakeholders for the journey: equipment & materials supplier selection, system integration partners, and public sector partners.
Excellent leadership, communication, and team-building skills with the ability to inspire and motivate cross-functional teams.
Fluency in English and Spanish. Other languages such as French are a plus
