The Role
The Environmental Specialist is responsible for implementation, monitoring, performance improvement planning, project management, and cultural change management in support of operational waste management improvement activities. The Environmental Specialist also supports preparation of regulatory compliance reports, such as quarterly and MDMER reporting. In addition, the position will support routine and non-routine environmental projects and programs and act as champion for site environmental initiatives involving internal and external stakeholders.
In this role, you will: Develop, maintain and provide oversight to the site waste management programParticipate in the planning and budget preparation for site waste management initiativesPrepare regulatory compliance reportsAssist in developing action plans to address emerging environmental data trendsSupport environmental department objectives which include environmental monitoring and sampling, as well as wildlife management activitiesEngage site stakeholders on environmental initiatives by establishing a site environmental committee, as well as plan, prepare and execute on site environmental awareness initiativesCollaborate with cross functional project and inter-operational teamsRequired: Bachelor's degree in environmental sciences/environmental managementThree or more years of applicable work experience in environmental sciences and regulatory complianceStrong working knowledge of environmental monitoring programs, data management and analysisEquivalent combination of education and work experience will be consideredWork a rotational schedule and commute to site by aircraftRecommended: Working knowledge and overall user proficiency with EQuIS data management systemExperience with oversight and management of waste management contractors and general labour contractorsWorking knowledge in the management of hazardous substances and waste dangerous goods, as well as industrial and domestic recycling programsP.Ag, P.Bio, or other relevant professional designation would be considered an assetPrevious experience in the mining or nuclear industriesEmergency response experience and/or certification or willingness to obtainConditions of Employment: Pre-employment substance testCameco is proud to offer a competitive total reward package which includes: Competitive compensation program with base and variable payFlexible health, drug, dental, and vision plan with a health spending and personal spending accountFixed benefits including employee and dependant life, AD&D, disability benefits and paid vacation leaveEmployee & Family Assistance ProgramsRRSP and RPP matching programCameco is an employment equity employer and aims to achieve gender parity.
