The Role The McArthur River radiation team is responsible for ensuring the safety and protection of employees at site by identifying radiation risks and mitigating those risks for successful production.
The Radiation Protection Officer will lead and supervise a team of radiation technicians by coaching, delegating duties, training and managing performance.
In this role, you will be responsible for providing radiation support to the operations, which includes: Regulatory reporting to ensure compliance for the radiation protection programs at site Managing the as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA) program, radiation procedures, and controls Collecting, maintaining, and recording radiation data from the facilities Issuing of radiation work permits Developing quality control procedures and training of staff Managing power air purifying respirator (PAPR) cleaning and training personnel specific to site demands Conducting routine monitoring and assessing work conditions pertaining to radiation protection for the safety of all workers Providing advice to the operation related to radiation safety Assisting with any CIRS investigations and providing guidance for corrective actions on any radiation related incidents Required: Radiation or environmental monitoring technician certificate or a post-secondary education in a science related field Five to eight years of applicable work experience with radiation protection principles Equivalent combination of education and work experience considered Experience managing a team Work independently and as part of team with safety as a core value Excellent communication and analytical skills Work a rotational schedule and commute to site by aircraft Recommended: Experience with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and database applications Mining experience, specifically at a uranium mine site Experience as a member of the Occupational Health Committee (OHC) An aptitude and desire to become a member of the emergency response team Conditions of Employment: Substance test Cameco is proud to offer a competitive total reward package which includes: Competitive compensation program with base and variable pay Flexible health, drug, dental, and vision plan with a health spending and personal spending account Fixed benefits including employee and dependant life, AD&D, disability benefits and paid vacation leave Employee & Family Assistance Programs RRSP and RPP matching program Cameco is an employment equity employer and aims to achieve gender parity, and as such, preference will be given to qualified members of equity groups.
