About British Council - Spain

British Council Spain operates a network of teaching centers throughout the country, delivering English teaching to some 30,000 students every year. In addition to teaching students directly, we operate the British Council's only school, in Madrid, a sizeable exams operation, we offer support in English language learning around the country, and we run strong programs in arts and education and society.
The Madrid Teaching Center offers courses to the general public between 8 am and 10 pm, and there are currently around 100 teachers. We deliver approximately 46,500 class hours per year through onsite classes to students between 5 and 85 years old, plus an additional 9,500 class hours through partner organizations, such as schools and kindergartens, and to corporate clients including government ministries, banks, and higher educational institutions.
Role Purpose

To promote and ensure quality teaching and effective learning of English and to support the wider aims of British Council and its cultural relations mission.
Main Duties: Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality English language teaching that meets the needs of different customer groups taking into account individual learning styles.Ensure that lesson materials are tailored appropriately to the needs of particular groups and individuals.Monitor and assess progress and provide regular feedback – both written and face to face – to help manage students' performance throughout the course, and actively promote learner autonomy, using the setting and correction of homework for that purpose.Meet individually with parents and students as part of the student's learning process.Complete teaching-related administrative tasks (such as prompt completion of class registers, record of classwork, break duties or level testing) to specified standards.Ensure safeguarding and guidelines are applied and upheld in line with standards and policy for the following areas: Child protection, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Health and safety.Qualifications Essential:
Undergraduate degree (in any discipline)
Cambridge CELTA or Trinity Certificate TESOL

Desirable:
Recognised Diploma in English as a foreign language e.g. DELTA or Trinity Diploma.
A Postgraduate Certificate in Education or Bachelor of Education in primary or a relevant secondary subject is highly desirable.
Work Experience: Essentials:
1 year post-certificate i.e. CELTA or Trinity Certificate TESOL experience
Experience in teaching relevant age groups specific to the center:

Early Years aged 2 to 5 (400+ hours)Primary aged 6 to 10 (400+ hours)Lower Secondary aged 11 to 14 (800+ hours)Upper Secondary aged 15 to 17 (400+ hours)Salary & Benefits

Salary - Euro 12,015.00 - 13,918.20 gross annually (depending on the working hours offered & education)
Offsite Travel Allowance

Additional Information

Contract type: Part time (15.5 hours a week)
Nationality requirements: Applicants must be EU nationals or have the right to work in Spain

Working Schedule:
Typical teaching slots are: weekday lunchtime, afternoon and evening classes, and Saturday morning and afternoon classes. Days off: Sunday plus another day of the week off, e.g. Friday. Some adult classes involve early morning starts.
Increasingly our young learner teaching takes place in schools, so travel is often required. Corporate classes usually take place off our premises.
Teachers may be expected to work in more than one British Council center and are also likely to work in more than one location, e.g. British Council Centre and a partner institution.
