ICFO is offering a postdoctoral position to a well-qualified, highly motivated and dynamic young scientist who wishes to enhance his/her scientific career in a friendly and stimulating environment.
The successful candidate will be joining the Functional Optoelectronic Nanomaterials group led by Prof. Dr. Gerasimos Konstantatos to develop chip-integrated infrared lasers based on colloidal quantum dot technology.
The aim is to develop the first chip-integrated infrared quantum dot laser emitting in the telecom wavelength regime as well as in longer wavelengths (extended-SWIR) for applications related to remote sensing, spectroscopy, LIDAR, and communications.
The candidate will be in charge of the design, fabrication, and characterization of quantum dot laser structures and integrating them on a chip for optical and/or electrical excitation.
Those proof-of-concept devices will then be tested in showcase examples to demonstrate potential for real-world applications.
Funded by MCIN/AEI/ 10.13039/501100011033 and by the "European Union NextGenerationEU/PRTR", candidates must hold, at the time of contract initiation, an internationally-recognized Ph.D.-equivalent degree (or evidence of its completion in the nearest future) preferably in electrical/electronic engineering, physics, or material science.
The candidates should have demonstrated experience and hands-on expertise in the fabrication, characterization, and optimization of optoelectronic devices for photodetection based on solution-processed materials.
Expertise in the infrared and most preferably using colloidal quantum dot technology will be considered a plus.
The successful candidates will have demonstrated expertise on:
The physics of semiconductor lasers Design of optical/photonic laser cavities using CAD simulation tools, including DFB and DBR structures Hands-on expertise on nanofabrication tools needed for photonic structure fabrication and thin film patterning and integration Building optical and electro-optical setups for laser characterization techniques Prior expertise on the above demonstrated with solution processed semiconductors (quantum dots, perovskites, etc.)
is not required but will be considered a plus.
The candidate should have strong teamwork skills, be initiative-taking, and respect deadlines.
ICFO is an equal opportunity employer.
Candidates are selected exclusively on merit and potential based on submitted application material.
No restrictions related to disabilities, citizenship, or gender apply to ICFO positions.
ICFO abides by the principles of openness, efficiency, transparency, supportiveness, and international comparability as stated in the European Charter for Researchers and the European Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers.
