KWS Vegetables is looking for a Breeding Technician (M/F/d) to join our team in Almeria. The position will be unlimited and full-time.
Key Duties Development: Within specified crop(s), execute, manage, monitor and provide advice relating to the operational breeding process in order to ensure the long-term profitability success of the breeding program. Management of Personnel: Plan, organize, conduct, give follow up and distribute the daily work associated to the breeding programs in the most effective and efficient way, within the framework of the budget and available resources. Breeding Trials: Breeding trials comprise crossing blocks, planting of families for breeding schemes, and hybrids screenings. Organize and execute the sowing, planting and harvesting of breeding trials under the close directions of their supervisors to enable effective selections, crossing taking place, and effective harvestings. Working closely with the farm team, breeding technicians are responsible to distribute and/or execute the cultural activities and/or crop management for the healthy development of the crop to maximize the breeding output (Disease control, proper and timely fruit harvest, etc). Responsible for the label printing for seeds, seedlings and plants. Basic Stock Seeds: Responsible for the physical production, storage and/or elimination of seeds chosen by their supervisors. Compliance with QC protocols, prepare seeds for QC analysis and compliance with the highest standards of hygiene indicated by their supervisors and/or other teams responsible for hygiene issues. Tissue Sampling: Breeding technicians are responsible to execute the tissue collection for DNA extractions and disease testing. Data Collection: Breeding technicians have to be able to collect phenotypic information following directions of their supervisors as well as to upload and download this information into data systems. Phenotypic information could include evaluations of Hybrids. Communication: Close communication with farm team, especially with farm technician in order to handle the daily work; contractor of temporal workers; temporal workers; pathology team in cases of identification of possible diseases; screening specialist, in order to recognize the areas where the trials are located and help to align phenotypic data collection between the breeding program and screening responsible; other breeding technicians of the program, in order to ensure the best practices across locations in which the breeding program is developed. HRM: Responsible for the training on the job and technical instructions of temporary staff. This training includes providing technical advice in order to meet agreed standards (QHSE, SOPs), time planning and budgets.
