What will you do?
You will be part of the Tomato breeding department. You will interact with specialists from various departments internationally, in R&D, operations, and commercial organization.
As a Breeder, you are responsible for developing competitive tomato varieties in line with Enza Zaden's long-term vision. Responsibilities include, among others:
Translation of the set Breeding targets into an operational & tactical breeding plan and proactively adjust the various breeding goals across the local breeding programs with the breeders in line with the crop strategy.
Overseeing the activities of breeding projects.
Facilitate the adoption of the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles in data records by breeders: Making sure that creation, update, process, and curation of detailed data records in various breeding software applications throughout the breeding cycles are understood and followed. Define data standards and quality controls for key decision milestones.
Organize data analysis and steer your colleagues on data-driven breeding approaches. Coaching and motivating other breeders in the exchange of knowledge and material.
Implementation of developed technology and traits in the breeding program. Stay up to date with the latest technologies and the implementation of modern breeding techniques.
Actively participate in decision-making to advance varieties as well as planning productions and screening trials. Member of a Product Advancement Team.
Handover advanced varieties material to Seed Production according to the defined specifications and registration in the designated countries.
Proactively cooperate with commercial teams on joint market visits to obtain information on market trends and direction for product models and align the Enza message.

In short,
Higher professional education (HBO, Bachelor).
7+ years of experience in plant breeding. Experience in row field crops is a plus.
Thorough knowledge of plant breeding, modern methods of breeding including quantitative genetics and phytopathology.
Strong organizational and management skills.
A thorough understanding of English, both verbal and written is required.
Travel will be required (International/Domestic).
You can work under intense weather conditions.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
