Context And Mission
Within the Earth Sciences Department of BSC, the climate prediction group aims at developing climate prediction capability for time scales ranging from a few weeks to a few decades and from regional to global scales. The Climate prediction group is looking for an established researcher to expand our research activities on the predictability of ocean biogeochemistry.
Key Duties To conduct ocean reconstructions with NEMO for the past changes in physics and biogeochemistry variables, assimilating several ESA variables. To evaluate the realism of those reconstructions against independent observational products. To contribute to project deliverables and meetings. Requirements Education: PhD in physics or similar. Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience:
Experience with the models NEMO and its component PISCES. Expertise in ocean fertilization processes. Excellent development skills in Python. Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience:
Experience of version control in a distributed team, including SVN or Git. Previous experience in HPC architectures and parallel programming. Previous experience in climate or ocean modeling. Fluency in English. Competences:
Capacity to interact and build strong relations with both climate and computer scientists. Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to take initiatives, prioritize tasks and work under set deadlines. Conditions The position will be located at BSC within the Earth Sciences Department. We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, flexible working hours, and private health insurance. Duration: Open-ended contract. Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December. Salary: Competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Starting date: 01/10/2024.
