PURPOSE
This position is responsible for the preparation and communication of the terminal berthing plan as determined in close cooperation with the vessel operators; balance priorities between connections, deadlines and required productivity levels.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Create/maintain a master-berthing plan (Berth Performa) with ideal vessel placement positions considering forecasted volume, crane intensity, expected rates of production, yard utilization and connection requirements.
Ensures that communications with the shipping lines regarding vessel berthing are clear and without error, coordinates the timely dispatch of vessels with the terminal and Marine Operator
Interact and communicate with vessel operators to ensure that berthing requests, production and productivity requirements are handled in a professional and efficient manner.
Plan the required vessel berth production by assigning the right berth and number of cranes based on SLA targets and equipment/manning plan of the terminal
Monitoring of vessel ETA progress for incoming and ETC for vessels alongside
Adjusting labor orders when there are drastic changes to ETA and ETC of vessels.
Provide the resource management department with staffing requirements in sufficient time to place labor orders.
Maintains vessel service rotation and unique vessel call information in the terminal operating system or berthing application
Updates the Vessel Berthing Plan regularly based on available new information
Communicates/publishes this plan internally for the entire terminal and related external stakeholders as per the Berth Planner standard operating procedure.
Notifies various departments of Vessel Berthing Request, so that pilots, mooring gang, positioning of quay cranes are scheduled appropriately.
Ensures that required timely berth performance reports are generated in time as instructed in the Berth Planner SOP.
Conducts post mortem reviews of vessel calls to assess and address areas of improvement.
Identifies and suggest continuous improvement possibilities in the ways of working.
Identifies and executes cost reduction OPS process within the team.

The position reports to WMED APMT Berth Supervisor.
The scope of the position is primarily local/domestic
WORK /BUSINESS CONTACTS AND AUTHORITY
Internal:
Operations & other planning department staff on a constant basis
Different Local operations Centers, Capacity-Marine-Equipment departments.
Nature of contact is primarily shared
Vessel Operators
Shipping Lines
Govt. bodies like port authority, customs, etc
Nature of contact is primarily for giving & receiving information about the in/out vessel flow in the terminal.
LEARNING & CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
In this position the incumbent will have a variety of learning opportunities to increment and acquire skills and knowledge in the following areas:
Broad exposure to operational management in a container terminal.
Broad exposure to operational management in Marine line operations.
Detailed knowledge of vessel planning systems.
Billing & financial aspects of terminal and line operations.
CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
University degree required. Merchant Marine degree as preferable. Any other degree will be balanced with experience in shipping business.
Requires at least 5 years of work experience in a container terminal or shipping line, preferably with experience in berth planning, vessel planning or vessel operation execution.
Requires knowledge of terminal berth capability and the terminal berth plan process.
Requires good knowledge of berthing ships, control and traffic of vessel movements, berthing positioning of vessels, and marine berth handling. Knowledge of network and proforma design will be also considered.
Requires some knowledge with Marine AIS application systems
Has familiarity with the strict implementation of international standards of safe working practices within marine, stevedoring and terminal operations.
A fluent and high English level is a must.
