Don Julio, an authentic Mexican restaurant with recipes passed down through three generations, is searching for passionate, enthusiastic, dynamic, and proactive aspiring chefs worldwide to bring the flavors of Mexico to life while living a once-in-a-lifetime professional and cultural experience in the United States.RESPONSIBILITIES As a cook trainee, your duties will include the following:Preparing all food items as directed in a sanitary and timely manner.Following recipes, portion controls, and presentation specifications set by the restaurant.Restocking all items as needed throughout the shift.Cleaning and maintaining station while practicing exceptional safety, sanitation, and organizational skills.Understanding and knowing how to use and maintain all station equipment properly.Assisting with the cleaning, sanitation, and organization of the kitchen.Performing additional responsibilities as requested by the Chef or Kitchen Manager at any time.Preparing food: Meat, seafood, poultry, vegetables, and cold food items.Covering, dating, and correctly storing all food preparation items.Using food preparation tools following the manufacturer's instructions.Closing the kitchen correctly and following the closing protocol made per station.ESTIMATED MONTHLY BUDGET Projected monthly income: $2,240 (Hourly wage: $14)Projected costs for housing and transportation: $900 (The employer provides housing alternatives for $700)Meals provided during working hours.J1 VISA PROGRAM This traineeship is part of a J1 visa program intended for young professionals or recent graduates to propel their careers, gain work experience, and improve their skills through cultural exchange.
The J1 Visa process and application fees has a total cost of $1,870, breakdown as follows:First payment due upon signing contract: $420 (non-refundable)Last payment due upon visa approval: $1,450 (includes $650 of mandatory health insurance)Disclaimer: The first month of housing has to be paid by the candidate in advance.
The employer does not cover the airfare cost, which will vary depending on the candidate's city of departure.About you To be eligible for a J1 Visa, you must meet the following requirements:You're between the ages of 18 to 35 years old.You graduated from an accredited institution, hold a degree related to the job position, and have at least 12 months of professional experience - OR - You're a young professional with at least 5 years of work experience in the field of interest.English Proficiency: IntermediateLanguage required: English.
