This team leads the design and development of VMware Application Catalog.
This is a SaaS service that provides a curated catalog of custom-configured (to enterprise requirements) open-source applications that are continuously maintained and privately delivered.VAC is based on the same trusted packaging technology and automation that Bitnami, now part of VMware, has been leveraging for many years.
With this service, customers will be able to choose which apps they need, which platform(s) they need them for, and what customizations are required (for example, packaging apps on top of a pre-approved "golden" operating system image).
These bespoke applications will be built, packaged, tested, continually maintained (patches, updates, etc.)
and delivered to a private repository.
The applications can be consumed directly into Continuous Integration pipelines from there, or can be pulled into other destinations for distribution like service catalogs.What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?Engineering Productivity is an enabler team, with the goal of maximizing the focus time of the Content Building Ecosystem engineers.
Your main objective will be to automate as much as possible every aspect of the software development life cycle.
We do so by optimizing the Build, Test, Release, Deploy, Operate and Observe steps and, as a result, increase the output of our teams.Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?Develop a good understanding of the culture, domain, product, mission, processes and to contribute actively and add value to the setup.You have a strong understanding of our infrastructure in AWS, GCP, and Azure and you are able to operate it.Participate as an on-call rotation engineer for VAC (and other products), solving and managing the incidents that may occur.You are able to improve the CICD pipeline performance and reliability of our different runners (GitLab and GitHub)Propose and implement actions to improve availability and reliability.Key Skills:You are passionate about reliability and scalability.You follow devops practices to tackle projects and tasks.You have a proactive approach on root-cause analysis and fixing.You aim to increase infrastructure automation, observability, and reliability.You are comfortable with multi-tasking if required by higher priority tasks.You are comfortable with fire-fighting services outages and handling follow-up post-mortems.You aim to work in a remote-based team, proactively sharing context.You love to learn and share experiences and knowledge with others.You have a proactive approach to documenting things, for the team and your future-self.What type of work will you be doing?
What assignments or requirements will you be performing on a regular basis?On a regular basis, you will:Manage infrastructure-as-code automation (i.E.
Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes manifests, and/or templating languages).Be exposed to container platforms (Kubernetes and Docker), manage Kubernetes infrastructure, and run Kubernetes workloads.Have a familiarity with data structures, can investigate incidents, and differentiate memory, I/O and CPU bottlenecks.Enjoy using code versioning tools like Git, Gitlab/GitHubUnderstand the importance of excellent documentation including runbooks, READMEs, HOW-TOs, architecture diagrams, etcHave fluency in Linux and TCP/IP networking.Managing multi-tenant production environments in at least one public cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure).Have proficient knowledge of a scripting language (i.E.
Shell, Python, Ruby etc.
)Build CI/CD pipelines, mainly applied to infrastructure and E2E testing.Work with cloud-native monitoring and logging (i.E.
