Advertised Position Title: Assistant Chair, Nursing, Lab Operations

Job Description: The Assistant Chair of lab operations is part of the administrative team helping to coordinate all aspects of lab operations on the Toledo & Findlay campuses.

Duty Days: Looking for time-off in the summer? The Assistant Chair of lab operations reports August through June (exact dates subject to change depending on departmental needs). This full-time permanent position is designated 220 duty days out of the typical 260.

Essential Functions: Provide leadership, initiative, management, supervision, collaboration and communication within all lab operations at various locations and within various courses. Track purchases and warranties to ensure that equipment is up to date and meets accreditation standards. In collaboration with the lab coordinator, monitor, analyze and report lab usage, compliance, data, etc. to identify appropriate (efficient and effective) staff assignments, training needs, operational changes, improvements, and resolve competing/conflicting schedule demands. Collaborate with faculty to keep curriculum current based on community needs, evidenced based practice, and national standards of care. Participate in and contribute to assessment of learning, program review, as assigned by Chair. Facilitate with lab coordinators to streamline labs across campuses. Collaborate with didactic instructors and lab faculty in development of curriculum, schedule, and requested scheduled lab content, including instructional labs and simulation. Resolve competing and conflicting demands/interests related to lab scheduling. Assist to maintain consistency of skills taught in the labs across campuses. Assist with recruiting, interviewing, and recommending adjunct applicants for hire in the lab(s). Work with the lab coordinators to schedule and evaluate adjunct instructors in the lab(s). Ensure supply inventory in all labs has been completed. Assist with ordering lab supplies after collaborating with lab coordinators regarding needs. Conduct necessary environmental scanning to maintain awareness of changes in technology that impact program design and needs. Identify and recommend equipment needs related to changes, improvements, and community partner demands. Advocate for student success. Other duties as assigned (including, but not limited to providing instruction in the lab(s)) in areas qualified to teach. Facilitate regular communication between students, faculty, staff and administration regarding lab procedure changes. Attend end of semester course meetings. Conduct cost analysis of lab usage and supplies. Submit recommended changes to student lab fees as necessary. Contribute to maintaining State Nursing Program approval, and National ACEN accreditation. Maintain knowledge of OBN rules; especially those pertaining to implementation/application of simulation experiences in the RN and PN curricula. Collaborate with lab coordinators, faculty, staff and administration regarding lab needs including equipment maintenance, troubleshooting problems and adaption to meet student needs and write Perkins Grants as the opportunities become available. Collaborate with other nursing administrators to arrange for substitute instructors. Collaborate with faculty, staff and other disciplines to incorporate interprofessional education into various nursing courses. Collaborate with the chairperson to develop, monitor and ensure lab budgets are sufficient to meet the needs of the lab. Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills: Knowledge of OBN rules and regulations for Chapter 4723-5 Nursing Education Program of the Ohio Administrative Code. Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to interact with students, faculty, administration, and other educators. Computer literacy. Ability to make decisions under pressure. Ability to make decisions with input from faculty, students and administration. Ability to manage several projects at one time. Ability to organize information and schedules to be presented in a timely manner. Professional demeanor and positive attitude. Strong level of commitment to the program and School of Nursing and Health Professions. Be able to handle difficult situations with diplomacy. Interact with faculty, students and administration in a positive manner. Be able to deal with difficult students. Minimum Requirements: A master's degree; (i) If the individual does not possess a bachelor of science in nursing degree, the master's or other academic degree, including, but not limited to a Ph.D., shall be in nursing; (ii) If the individual possesses a bachelor of science in nursing degree, the master's degree may be, but is not required to be, in nursing.
