What you'll do:Reporting to the Director Development Europe, the Analyst supports the transaction and business development function. This position will be responsible for supporting our M&A and Business Development team in Madrid, working in the acquisition and development of large-scale renewable energy projects in Spain. The Analyst will report directly to the Sr. Associate, Development Europe, and will work in close collaboration with the Director of M&A and Business Development, Spain. The Analyst will also work closely with all members of the Development team, as well as the broader Northland organization, supporting activities in other markets if so required.
Key ResponsibilitiesResponsible for preparing and managing project-level financial models for valuation, risk assessment, and cash flow evaluation purposes.Responsible for reviewing and stress testing financial models prepared by third parties and advisors.Assist in the coordination of due diligence, including preparing questions for company management and external advisors, reviewing documentation, researching industry information, supporting the coordination of internal and external teams, and summarizing results.Responsible for writing investment memorandums and preparing presentations summarizing key findings from internal and external sources.Accountable for translating financial analysis into concise recommendations.Work with the Market Analysis & New Initiatives department in the analysis of energy market fundamentals in both new and existing markets for Northland.Review market data and financial statements to identify possible acquisition targets and prepare models to value possible acquisition benefits.Gather relevant information through communication with external organizations, colleagues and the use of electronic information providers.Research and analyze financial statements, industry information, technical and financial data to present conclusions to team members.Support other initiatives as needed.Who you are:Thinking Strategic: You have the ability to think strategically and dig into complex financial data and concise financial analysis.Decisive: You take the required time to understand the options and risks but are not afraid to make tough decisions.Diligent: You have a high attention to detail and exacting standards to ensure the accuracy.Clear Communication: You can communicate clearly, write well, and interact with diverse internal and external stakeholders and counterparties.Motivated: You are a highly-motivated self-starter and have demonstrated a commitment to continuous improvement.Collaborative: You build relationships easily and enjoy working as a team to get things done.Able to communicate at a high level (business fluency) in English.Qualifications and experience2-3 years of investment banking, private equity, management consulting, corporate M&A function or other transaction-related experience, preferably with a background in power and renewable, or infrastructure.A business undergraduate degree (Economics or Finance) or related field (Engineering, Science, Mathematics, etc.), with exceptional academic results.Demonstrable experience building financial models and valuing corporate or project level acquisition opportunities.Experience creating and reviewing detailed cash flow and three-statement financial models.Masters of Finance or other advanced designation considered an asset.You have advanced technical/computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Bloomberg).
