The Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is seeking a talented individual to join our Operations Department as a User Support specialist on AI projects.Supercomputers are indispensable tools for solving the most challenging and complex scientific and technological problems not just through simulations. Now the usage of neural networks and large language models for solving engineering problems is possible and helping companies to achieve their goals using AI technologies is our challenge. This position will be integrated into the operations department within the User Support team. The team will work on AI applications support for the most relevant projects asking for BSC resources, including performance optimization support, code porting, specific AI tutoring and support, improvement of the scalability and performance of the models.BSC hosts one of the biggest supercomputers in Europe within the framework of EUROHPC joint undertaking. The pre-exascale machine hosted by BSC is named MareNostrum 5 and has a total of 205 PFlops sustained with more than 180 of them accelerated with the latest NVIDIA technology, using H100 GPUs. The HPC support team has a direct role improving the usage of this machine and to help the most relevant projects in their day-to-day usage.The funding for these actions/fellowships and contracts comes from the European Union Recovery and Resilience Facility - Next Generation, within the framework of the General Invitation by the public business entity Red.Es to participate in the talent attraction and retention programs within Investment 4 of Component 19 of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan.Key DutiesOptimize and adapt scientific application codes to new pre-exascale architectures and systems, focusing on AI applications and technologies.Improve the performance of existing AI environments, improving the serial efficiency and the scalability, changing, if necessary, the code or helping the developers with their required modifications.Choose and adapt algorithms and/or library routines to improve applications to specific computer architectures (accelerators, new programming models, etc.).Provide consultancy to scientists on AI solutions that can improve the evolution of their research.Generate performance analysis and benchmarks for selected applications and report the results to the applications developers.Collaborate with other functional groups at European and International level on technical matters related to supporting AI scientific application work
