Operates conventional, special purpose, and computer numerical control (CNC) machines, including lathes, grinders, milling machines, and drill presses to machine complex metallic parts to exacting blueprint tolerances. Supports operations and engineering by pre-setting, sharpening, and building/repairing tools.

Roles & ResponsibilitiesMonitor and adjust as needed to maintain quality parts within control limits for SPC.Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.Perform preventative maintenance and minor machine maintenance as needed.Operate various CNC machines (two to six axis machinery).Set up and adjust fixtures, cutting tools, and make tooling offsets on machines.Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust machine controls or control media as required.Fit and assemble parts into complete assembly as required by department.Aid in the training of production operators on the use of new CNC machine controls and tools.Verify conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.Use precision measuring instruments to perform first piece and in-process inspections for conformance to blueprint specifications, in accordance with inspection plans.Operate, clean, and calibrate CMM.Inspect tooling for damage or wear after production.Work with engineering to document/log any unplanned process or tooling changes.Knowledge of tool sharpening (geometry, methods, and terminology).Pre-set and clean all tools to be used in production.Identify and report abnormal use of tooling.Identify and maintain proper levels of tooling.Build tool assemblies from blueprints.Master and maintain preset machine.Confer with maintenance, engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining problems.Support training efforts as needed by machining departments.Responsible for quick turnaround support and potential rework when required.Collaborate and advise engineering team on design for manufacturability.Provide technical support to CNC Operators.Safety, Health, and Physical RequirementsStand for long periods of time and frequent walking throughout an eight-hour shift.Lifting shoulder high up to 35 lbs. repetitively.Maintain a clean and orderly work area in compliance with 5S.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.Repetitive motion activities including but not limited to loading machines, unloading machines, standing, lifting, loading/unloading carts.All employees are responsible for knowing, understanding, and complying with the safety policies and procedures.The noise level in the work environment is moderate.Key CompetenciesSafety Judgement/Decision MakingTeamwork/Interpersonal SkillsAttendanceAttention to detail and accuracy of workHigh sense of urgencySelf-starterEducation & ExperienceHigh School diploma/GED or basic skills assessment required.12 months of related CNC operator experience preferred.Experience in fast-paced industrial lean environment.Strong mechanical aptitude.Basic and advanced math skills; familiarity with ratios, proportions, geometry, and trigonometry is a plus.Good communication skills in both verbal and written forms.Ability to read and interpret blueprints.Ability to use measuring instruments including but not limited to calipers, height gage, scales, and micrometers.Ability to perform Machine Operator 1 and Machine Operator 2 duties.Intermediate computer knowledge.Employees are expected to support machining departments and other areas of the facility as necessary to support production needs.
