What can you expect... The position of Airframe/Airpower Structural Design Engineer is within the area responsible for the structural design and integration of major airframe components in the following aircraft platforms; EUROMALE, SIRTAP, FCAS, Aerostructures such as Dassault Falcon 10X Empennage, C295, Eurofighter.
Airframe Research & Technology projects for advanced highly integrated composite structures concepts in carbon fibre with thermoset and thermoplastic resins, also exploring additive manufacturing capabilities for structural optimization.
You will be on a development pathway to guide your growth into the role of Airframe/Airpower Structural Design Engineer and can expect to be involved in the following:
Be part of the team designing and developing major airframe components, defining composite elements as well as the final assembly component made of multiple parts, you will also learn about product assembly processes and related manufacturing technologies.
Learn by practising state of the art Product Digital Design and Manufacturing Software 3DEXPERIENCE used in the definition and configuration of the aircraft. It is a dynamic area, working with an AGILE methodology, adding value within Structural Design solutions and troubleshooting issues in production and in service.
Get directly involved in engineering multifunctional teams and with specialists in the several engineering disciplines (materials and processes, structural analysis, manufacturing engineers, in service product support, flight physics, flight control systems, electrical and hydraulic systems and installations, airworthiness and certification) that are part of the aircraft structure design and definition, development, manufacturing and certification process and in service support.
You will practice and develop skills/knowledge in:
Develop cross-product knowledge (Multiple Platforms). Develop cross-skill knowledge (Different Structures). Opportunities to develop cross-functional knowledge (Multiple Requirements).
Design of composites/metallic components and assemblies that are optimised in terms of weight, cost, performance, production/assembly requirements while ensuring the highest safety of the product.
Design Documentation for Manufacturing and Product Configuration and Certification.
Planning and follow up of structural design deliverables.
Interfacing with customers, partners and suppliers and communicating with corresponding stakeholders in the design reviews, concurrent engineering groups and project follow-up meetings.
During the period in structural design you will have the chance to learn and practice in other Airframe Engineering disciplines such as Structural Analysis or Design of Systems installation.
Your development pathway will include a minimum of one rotational placement to support your growth into the position.
At the end of the two year development programme you will have developed into the position of a Airframe/Airpower Structural Design Engineer.
What we are looking for... To be a successful applicant to the Airbus Global Graduate Programme, we ask that you demonstrate you have:
Educated to a Degree level or equivalent within Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering or Industrial (Mechanical) Engineering (preferably Masters).
First professional experience in airframe engineering disciplines and/or with composite structures would be beneficial.
Interest or previous knowledge in the use of design and product definition software such as CATIA V5 or 3DEXPERIENCE would be appreciated.
Strong verbal and written communication in our business language (English).
A desire to work in a collaborative team environment, focused on driving future innovation.
The ability to be self aware and a wish to be in the driving seat of your development.
