Role Advanced materials researcher About us Pack2Earth, S.L.
is a Barcelona-based impact start-up specialized in developing and commercializing home compostable materials made from plants and minerals to substitute fossil-based plastic.
Our materials can be used for packaging and other uses.
Including the vacancy for which we're recruiting, we are an 8-person team.
Our structure is as flat as possible; favouring teamwork and cooperation.
You would be working mostly from a laboratory in Barcelona and sometimes from home, on a flexible schedule.
English and Spanish are our main company languages.
Please note that this role would suit a researcher who enjoys developing cutting edge technical solutions to commercial needs.
It is not research for research's sake, but research to meet clear commercial, and environmental & health goals.
Experience required · Proven experience in new materials research, with a doctorate or pre-doctorate education.
· Strong background in researching and developing biodegradable and/or compostable compounds, including from compostable and renewable sources such as biopolymers (e.g.
cellulose, starches, resins, plasma and waxes).
· Strong background in researching and developing biodegradable and/or compostable materials.
· Strong background in packaging development/research.
· Experience with food-grade packaging.
· Knowledge of the different technologies for transforming different plastic materials, such as injection, extrusion, blow molding, thermoforming.
· Experience in operating laboratory equipment for plastic materials, e.g.
chemical composition (TGA, DSC, FTIR), mechanical and rheological tests, amongst others.
· Experience in industrialising the solutions developed through R&D&i is desirable.
Personal profile required Truly believes that a solution needs to be found to plastic pollution & health impacts.
Understands and likes the excitement and risk/reward aspects of working in a start-up.
Highly self-motivated, organised and cooperative.
· Excellent written skills, in order to effectively document progress and findings.
· Excellent English language skills (both written and spoken).
Preferably also excellent Spanish language skills.
Qualifications required Doctorate or pre-doctorate in chemistry or similar Remuneration Good work-life balance in a friendly environment.
Salary of circa €40,000 gross per annum , depending on the candidate's experience and fit.
We are a start-up, so we are not able to offer the highest salaries, but we will complement the salary with phantom shares for the right candidate, which could generate windfall earnings in a liquidative event.
