Position Overview:We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to join our dynamic team in a fast-paced construction environment.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the accounting department, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with industry-specific financial regulations.
The Accounting Manager will work closely with project managers, executive leadership, and other departments to drive financial efficiency, manage cash flow, and ensure the financial health of the company.
Key Responsibilities:Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statements) for the company and individual projects.Analyze financial data, identify trends, and provide insights to senior management regarding financial performance, profitability, and areas for cost control.Ensure all financial statements are compliant with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and applicable regulations.Manage and monitor the accounting of construction projects, including tracking costs, job budgets, and contract revenue recognition.Ensure timely and accurate reporting of work-in-progress (WIP) schedules and cost-to-complete analyses.Collaborate with project managers to forecast project costs and margins, and resolve any discrepancies between budgeted and actual costs.Implement and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial reporting standards.Oversee the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring deadlines are met and accounting records are accurate.Coordinate with external auditors for annual audits and tax filings, providing necessary documentation and responding to inquiries as needed.Monitor cash flow and provide timely reports to management to ensure adequate liquidity for ongoing and upcoming projects.Develop cash flow forecasts, including the management of payables and receivables, and provide recommendations for optimizing cash flow.Supervise, mentor, and train accounting staff, ensuring they are adequately prepared for their roles and equipped with the tools they need for success.Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and support professional development to enhance team efficiency and capabilities.Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal tax laws, including sales tax, payroll tax, and other regulatory requirements.Coordinate with tax advisors for preparation and filing of corporate taxes.Lead efforts to optimize accounting processes and improve efficiencies within the department.Manage and oversee the implementation of accounting software, integrations, and other financial systems to streamline operations.Qualifications:Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).
CPA or CMA designation preferred.Experience: 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
Prior experience in the construction industry or a similar project-based environment is highly preferred.Skills & Abilities: Advanced knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards (GAAP).
Strong proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Procore, Viewpoint, or similar construction-specific systems).
Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working with cross-functional teams.
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Proven leadership skills, with the ability to motivate, mentor, and develop staff.Additional Requirements: Strong organizational and time management skills.
Knowledge of construction contracts, lien laws, and financial regulations related to the industry.Working Conditions:Full-time, in-office position with occasional travel to job sites as needed.Some overtime may be required during peak project periods or month-end/year-end close.Seniority levelMid-Senior level
