The Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe. We are particularly interested for this role in the strengths and lived experiences of women and underrepresented groups to help us avoid perpetuating biases and oversights in science and IT research.
Context And Mission
The Language Technologies Unit at BSC has a consolidated experience in several NLP areas, such as massive language model building, biomedical text mining, machine translation and unsupervised learning for under-resourced languages and domains. The LT Unit at BSC is looking for a Team Leader of Machine Learning with experience in Language Technologies, specifically in Deep Learning applied to speech processing and possible large language model building.
Key Duties: Lead a team of ML engineers, data engineers and computational linguistsDetermine the priorities of the teamExternalize work if necessary, writing requirement documents and managing the work of the external providersEnsure that the successful delivery of the resultsRepresent the speech team in the coordination meetings of the unitMentor team members for career growthApply for research projectsWrite research papersRequirements: Education: Master's degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Applied linguistics or related disciplines. PhD will be a plus.Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience:Demonstrated experience of at least 2 years in leading engineering teams in the relevant area(s).Demonstrated experience of at least 5 years in deep learning frameworks and in the relevant area(s).Published papers on deep learning, specifically in speech.Experience in project management.Experience in managing product development from ideation to delivery.Knowledge on version control tools, and MLOps best practices.Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience:Experience in development of text-to-speech models.Demonstrated experience in developing open source software and resources.Fluency in English is essential. Proficiency in Spanish and other European languages would be advantageous. Catalan will be a plus.Strong understanding of linguistic concepts.Competences:Ability to work in a team and in a multi-cultural environment.Ability to prioritize work, personally and for others.Ability to work under set deadlines.Conditions:
The position will be located at BSC within the Life Sciences Department. We offer a full-time contract (37 hours per week).
