JOB DESCRIPTIONWe are seeking a new Emergent Group Leader for the Translational Genomics and Bioinformatics of Cancer Group. The selected candidate will lead a new group at the IGTP working to bring cancer genomics closer to the clinics. The group, as part of the CARE program, is expected to establish collaborations with groups at the IGTP and the HUGTiP. In particular, the group will interact closely with the IGTP Hereditary Cancer and the HUGTiP CSUR in Phacomatoses and help them bring the power of computational and genomic analysis to the Neurofibromatosis Type 1 patients in the form of better diagnostics and management.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCEPhD in bioinformatics, computer sciences, biomedical sciences or related.Hold an R3 or I3 certificate or have applied for one.Postdoctoral experience of at least 6 years.Experience mentoring trainees and supervising PhD students.Knowledge of hereditary cancer syndromes in general and Neurofibromatosis Type 1 in particular. Experience working with peripheral nervous system tumors associated with NF1.Experience designing and implementing genomics-based tests for cancer diagnostics and bringing them to the clinical routine. Experience working in multidisciplinary teams with clinicians.Tumor genomics and epigenomics experience, both at bulk and single-cell level including: SNP-array, gene panels, WES and WGS, RNAseq, scRNAseq and methylation arrays. Working knowledge of long-read nanopore sequencing and data analysis.Fluent in R and other programming languages. Experience developing R packages and writing good quality code for others to use.Experience working in HPC environments with batch processing and queueing systems.Experience securing national and international funding.Good communication and interpersonal skills.Fluent in Catalan, Spanish and English.In addition, it will be valued if the candidate has:
Experience working with other sarcomas and other rare cancer types.A track record in open science, including open source software and open data.Good data visualization skills. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIESThe selected candidate will be the leader of the research group and be responsible for all its aspects. In this regard, the candidate will be responsible for:
Defining the research projects of the group.Securing the necessary funding for them, including personnel.Ensuring research is performed following the best practices and the IGTP ethical guidelines.The candidate will also be in charge of mentoring any trainee that joins the group including postdocs, PhD students, Masters' students and undergrads. The candidate is also expected to actively participate in the IGTP multiple scientific activities such as talks and trainings as well as in outreach efforts both to the general public and patient associations.
