The 'Stein-based goodness-of-fit TEsts for Non-Euclidean Data' (STENED) project seeks to hire two fully-funded PhD fellows expected to start in January 2025 (preferably) or June 2025 at the latest. Application deadline on 15 November 2024.One of the main objectives of STENED is to leverage Stein's method to create an overarching inferential toolbox for parametric and semiparametric distribution models defined on non-Euclidean supports. The pursuit of this goal involves developing cutting-edge mathematical statistics and computational methods.The STENED project is funded through the 'AEI-DFG Call for Joint Spanish-German Research Projects' and is jointly participated by the Karlsruhe Institute for Technology (KIT) and Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M). The project is co-led by Dr. Bruno Ebner (KIT) and Dr. Eduardo García Portugués (UC3M).One PhD position is offered at KIT, and another PhD position is offered at UC3M. The work locations are at the Institute for Stochastics (Karlsruhe, Baden-Württemberg, Germany) and the Department of Statistics (Leganés, Community of Madrid, Spain), respectively.We offer:Two 3-year PhD contracts, each with a possibility of an additional year extension.Competitive salaries in KIT and UC3M, respectively. In KIT, a gross yearly salary of €41,000, corresponding to 75% TV-L E13 position.
